Dear Partners,
We are delighted to invite you to the 11th edition of the Malabo Montpellier Forum on December 5, 2022. Taking place in Senegal, Dakar and online, this Forum will see the launch of the Malabo Montpellier Panel’s forthcoming report, ADAPT: Policy innovations to unlock climate finance for resilient food systems in Africa.
Organized by the Malabo Montpellier Panel, in partnership with the Centre de Suivi Écologique (CSE), the Forum will take place directly after COP27, providing an opportune moment to reflect on the outcomes of the negotiations as well as to draw a roadmap of action and support to African countries seeking to unlock access to international climate adaptation finance for their food systems in close alignment with the African Union Climate Change and Resilient Development Strategy and Action Plan (2022-2032) and countries' UN Food Systems Summit commitments. Africa’s leaders recognize the urgency and importance of adapting their food systems to a changing climate and are already investing significant resources in developing national policies and institutions to respond to climate change. However, more needs to be done to fill the persistent climate adaptation financing gap and to facilitate African countries' access to international climate finance mechanisms, funds, and tools.
The meeting of the Forum will be held in three parts: a technical part drawing on the findings and recommendations from the Panel, a second part which will be a policy roundtable composed of senior representatives from African governments, development partners, civil society, and the private sector to share experiences and lessons learnt, and a third part dedicated to reactions and reflections on the way forward.
