Coming Right Up...

Rising from the Ashes:

A BYM Programmed Meeting
Toward Connection and Repair of the Harms of Racism

December 3, 12 to 4 pm

Friends will gather on December 3rd from 12 to 4 pm to acknowledge and honor the pain of racism experienced by Friends of Color within our Yearly Meeting, to help White Friends see their complicity in that pain, and to take the next steps on the road to repair of our beloved community. The gathering will be at Stony Run Meeting and on Zoom.  Learn more and register here.

A View from the Trenches:  Friends' Experience of War

December 4 at 12:15pm

Please join the Continuing Quaker Education Committee on Sunday, December 4 at 12:15pm by Zoom.* as we continue our year-long exploration of the Friends' Peace Testimony.  For this Second Hour, we will leave behind the conceptual talk of peace and hear from Friends who have experienced war first hand.  Panelists will be Mary Ellsberg, Pat Nutter, Jolee Robinson, and Chloe Schwenke.  How did these experiences influence their thinking on the Peace Testimony?  What is their relationship to pacifism now?  We would love to see you -- please stop in!

*The Zoom link is the same as the one for Meeting for Worship.  Check here.

Next First Friday Film Discussion - on Second Friday

December 9 at 7 pm

December 9 will be the "honorary first Friday" for our discussion of the film Gather at 7 pm. This film is an intimate portrait of a growing movement among Indigenous Americans to reclaim their spiritual and cultural identities by re-asserting sovereignty over their ancestral food systems, and battling against the historical trauma brought on by centuries of genocide. Here is the Zoom link for the discussion.

"Gather" is available on Hoopla (Montgomery County Public Libraries), Kanopy (Prince Georges County and DC Public Libraries), Netflix, I-Tunes, Amazon Prime ($4) and others.  See the trailer here

Warm Blessings for the Lodin Family

The Lodin family - the Afghan refugee family under our care - has an immediate need for coats, hats, gloves, boots ... and Baby Things!
(The new baby is arriving this week-- do we have anything to offer this newborn?)  Please contact Marcy Seitel via her info in Breeze.
