Dear Friend:

Today, is Giving Tuesday, and many organizations will ask for your generosity. Today, we at Countryside UU are also kicking off a month of giving in a campaign called Giving Tuesdays with a goal of raising at least $20,000. Tuesday’s child is full of grace the old poem says. In some faiths, grace means love from God and in Unitarian Universalism, it means offering love instead of judgement.

We are asking you to donate today to OUR spiritual home -- CCUU -- in this special appeal: Giving Tuesdays. We are here for you in every season, no matter what troubles, tragedies, joys, or celebrations your life brings. We are here to share with you in creating hope, care, and love for you and our friends and neighbors. Countryside is a special place in an area where progressive thought can sometimes feel lonely – not just on Tuesdays.

You can always turn to us for spiritual companioning, inspiration, thought-provoking ideas. Our sermons and Lifespan Education classes, teach us to be the helpers fueling justice causes we all care about. Our church is where we learn how to care for one another, forming our faith, and changing our world to one that matches our progressive values.

This is a time we are asking you to help us put on our oxygen mask first before helping others. This year, we are asking you to think of Countryside first in your generosity list this holiday season. We believe in this community and every one of us on the Board, have made a gift to the Giving Tuesdays campaign.
Countryside Church Unitarian Universalist is a spiritual community
actively answering the call for love, compassion, reason, and justice.

Here is how we put our mission into action most recently:

We create a welcoming place of connectedness, compassion, and respect for people of all ages.

Since its return in September, our choir has been a strong glue during our services; they have reminded us that we belong here together, called us to action through courage, and invited us to be the change. This weekend, our Children’s Choir returned too.

We advance inclusivity and diversity within our congregation and community.

Through the Sermon Series on Viola Liuzzo and Rev. James Reeb, Feelings Wheels, and White Lies discussion series, we have stretched ourselves by learning hard things.

We care for each other in times of joy, sorrow, and transition.

We have gathered during times of tragedy. When members of our own community have been impacted by tragedies, our congregation has offered pastoral support to the family and to many friends & community members to help process the grief and sorrow.

Often after a memorial service, families turn to us and say, I don’t know how I would have done that without CCUU. Our Staff and you, our volunteers, come together during memorials, welcoming hundreds of friends and family as we mourn together. We are here for you in times of sorrow.

We provide for spiritual and intellectual growth and inspire lifelong learning.
This past Sunday, we dedicated ourselves to three Unitarian Universalist young people. Our religious exploration classes are growing. We now have participants in every single RE class we offer! We have expanded and continue to expand faith formation opportunities for adults too.

Give generously to CCUU during this season of Giving Tuesdays so that we may continue to live our mission!

Why are we asking you for generosity in December? In the past, CCUU was blessed with philanthropists in the congregation who gave so generously that the budget was met with ease. It is very rare that a congregation would be able to have a short pledging period, give away the funds raised in our fundraisers, and not have to talk much about money. Times have changed, and we can weather these changes together. It does mean doing things differently – TOGETHER with grace and love. Giving Tuesdays in December is a way to share our generosity with this very special spiritual home we all treasure.

Today & every Tuesday in December, we hope you will consider donating to Countryside Church UU in order to raise $20,000 by Dec 31 to cover the unexpected increase in utilities and the fair & equitable adjustment to employee benefits. Countryside is so important to each of us. Please donate now to help us raise $20,000 by Dec 31.

With grace,
Your Board of Trustees: Tom Dempsey, Pat Harrington Wydell, Debbie Lee, Dan Yokas, Susan Auld, Emilie Cheng, Lisa Gilley, Jerome McDonnell, Tim Reuter-Bowers, Denise Sepos

P.S. Please keep Countryside UU in your thoughts during this time of Giving Tuesdays. We know that you receive requests from dozens of worthy causes. Remember that your generosity to CCUU not only helps us to serve the wider community, but it also helps this place that we call our spiritual home to put our mission into action. We all want to thrive and prosper.
