Holy One,

Give us the courage to be brave, as we prepare for Christ’s arrival,
so that, like the Angels, we can reach out to the “unreachable,”
like Elizabeth and Mary, we can receive unexpected messengers;
and like the shepherds make peace with the special role we play in Christ’s story.

Help us to be brave, as we prepare.
Amen.

No Reconciliation without Justice: Indigenous members of The United Church of Canada took part in the World Council of Churches’ (WCC) 11th Assembly in Karlsruhe, Germany. Lorna Pawis helped organize the Indigenous Pre-Assembly, playing key roles in opening and closing ceremonies where Sami people from northern Europe welcomed participants to the territory. Sam Miller, a delegate to the Assembly, shared the Haudenosaunee strawberry teaching. Sam was active on an Assembly committee and gave readings in a morning worship service. Paradigm Shift: New Realities in Israel Palestine: Members from UNJPPI, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) and Ottawa Forum on Israel Palestine (OFIP) will share about their recent visit to Israel and Palestine from October to November 2022. Their trip included meetings with the leadership of Defense for Children International - Palestine (DCIP) and Addameer – two Palestinian human rights organizations which have been criminalized by Israel, and whose offices were raided two-and-a-half months earlier. The delegation travelled to many communities and met with several organizations. They also met with the head of the Canadian mission in Ramallah, the top Canadian diplomat to the Palestinian Authority. The webinar takes place on Monday, December 5th (2 p.m. ET, 11 a.m. PT). To register go HERE. CJPME has put together a comprehensive written report of the visit HERE
