National Day of Prayer in Solidarity with Indigenous Peoples | Dec. 12
|
|
This year, we have been blessed to have had a delegation of Indigenous people visit Pope Francis in Rome in order to receive his apology on behalf of the Roman Catholic Church, and again to welcome the Holy Father to this land to hear his words of sorrow as he embarked on his, self described, “Pilgrimage of Penance". Let us take this opportunity to build on the reflections offered by Pope Francis.
The National Day of Prayer in Solidarity with Indigenous Peoples will be celebrated on December 12, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas.

- Bulletin Shorts, free to use
- The Advent season easily has us focus on the coming of the infant Messiah. However, John the Baptist’s words clearly refer to the coming of an adult Messiah. Everything about John the Baptist challenges established religious authorities. He emerged from the desert, he wore tattered clothing and ate locusts and wild honey. John calls people not only to repentance, but to an integrity that bears the fruit of love and mercy.
- How would we respond to a John the Baptist today? Who among us really wants to make changes in her/his life?
- In what ways does our behaviour show that we repent and believe God’s Good News?
- Much in life is urgent, but not essential. Do John’s words feel urgent or essential?
(Source: Diocese of Saskatoon)

- Kid's challenge this week: We do many things to get ourselves ready for our celebration of Christmas: purchase gifts, prepare Christmas cards, decorate our homes. John the Baptist reminds us that our repentance is another way in which we can prepare for the Lord's coming and our celebration of Christmas. This week, ask your family to gather in a prayerful space or around the Advent wreath, Read Matthew 3:1-3 and pray together the Act of Contrition. Celebrate God's forgiveness by sharing a sign of peace with each other. Loyola Press)
