Great Minds Think Differently
A delegate from South Korea addressing the issue of statelessness in the world.

All kinds of praise can be given to the students who attended the final High School Model UN session for 2022 this past Saturday, but maybe the best observation of all is how prepared delegates were. Many had read the resolutions in advance, even though the Wednesday deadline gave little time for that. Nearly all countries wanted to talk, and many had feedback to give to every resolution on the docket! Resolutions were varied, including topics on human cloning, statelessness, waste management, and combating superbugs. The morning ended with a robust discussion on whether or not Saudi Arabia should be granted unilateral military action in the Persian Gulf to better guarantee oil and petroleum exports will reach their destinations.  After many passionate statements against, and even a few in favor (playing their delegate roles with relish), the resolution was soundly defeated. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has a few international trust issues, it seems.

The names drawn from those who completed an evaluation were:

Alia Hammad (Parkway West HS)
Jiajia Mao (Clayton HS)
Sohaila Rafael (Crossroads College Prep)

Winners each received a $15 Amazon gift credit through email.
Thanks to all who completed the evaluation!

Sign up for another Roundtable Discussion THIS Saturday, Dec. 10, 1-3 pm!
Every school year Civitas likes to provide opportunity for students from all over St. Louis and beyond to gather and talk about whatever is on their minds. We had a great discussion in September that ended with several topic suggestions uncovered because we ran out of time, including LGBTQ+ rights and income inequality in the St. Louis area and beyond. So we've scheduled a "Part 2" at Oak Bend Library this Saturday, December 10 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm to continue the dialogue. Join us for this fun afternoon. We'll have snacks and beverages. Even if you weren't at the September gathering, you are enouraged to come to this one.

Click here to sign up now and earn a Game Changer point and two service hours. If there is something in particular on your mind to discuss, you can list it on the sign up form. Hope to see you there!
High School Students Wanted for Holocaust Museum Advisory Board

The St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum (12 Millstone Campus Dr., Creve Coeur 63146) reopened last month after a huge renovation and expansion that quadrupled its size. Dr. Warren Rosenblum, professor of the Department of History, Politics, International Relations and Religious Studies at Webster University (our generous host for High School Model UN events) serves on the Executive Committee of the Holocaust Museum and Learning Center.

During his brief welcome to Webster U before Model UN on Sat., Dec. 3, Dr. Rosenblum praised the amazing new Holocaust Museum, now rivaling many others in the country. He also shared that the museum is hoping to attract local high school students who can be advisors to what is offered, and how to attract a younger generation to the museum. Rising anti-Semitism in the United States is a topic the White House is addressing tomorrow. Bringing the dialogue to St. Louis, and including high school voices, is a short-term goal of the newly renovated Holocaust Museum.

If you would like to be a part of this exciting opportunity, contact Dr. Warren Rosenblum via email:
