However, during the school year outside the sport season, if other members of the high school team are present, this becomes a violation.

Achieve Together

Achieve Together seeks to offer young people, especially those from underserved communities or who may not otherwise be able to experience state championship sporting events, the opportunity to attend IHSAA tournaments.

The program offes complimentary tickets for students (K-12) — selected from interested youth programs and outreach organizations in Iowa — to attend state championships in football (fall), basketball (winter), soccer (spring), and baseball (summer).

Thanks to our sponsors, Farm Bureau, MUSCO Lighting, and Fareway, over 500 young people attended this year's IHSAA State Football Championships at the UNI-Dome.

Recent Meetings/Clinics/Presentations

State Cross Country Review

Assistant Director Andy Umthun met with representatives from IGHSAU and the city of Fort Dodge to review the 2022 State Cross Country meet.  Feedback regarding the meet was overwhelmingly positive. Suggestions were made regarding possible improvements in cell coverage, branding and concessions.  This group will meet again in the spring to talk through specific proposals.

Branding

On Wednesday, I met with Iowa State University Alumni CEO Jeff Johnson to discuss processes to use to develop a brand.  It has been some time since the IHSAA examined its branding and/or considered an updated branding approach.  In my role as principal, I worked with Jeff on a visioning process that led to a re-branding at the school.

University of Northern Iowa

On Wednesday, I met with Justin Schemmel from UNI regarding the IHSAA agreement to host our State Football Semifinals and finals at the UNI-Dome.  We discussed the current agreement, financial arrangements, schedule, parking, workforce and length of the agreement.  We plan to meet again in December to draft an agreement, giving consideration to the topics we discussed.

Meet the IHSAA Staff

Whitney Schlicht - Administrative Assistant

IHSAA Administrative Assistant Whitney Schlicht has been an important member of the IHSAA team for just over a year.  Whitney's main area of responsibility is officials' registration. She works with Director of Officials Lewie Curtis as well as our other sport administrators in assigning officials to the postseason.  Whitney also assists our officials with rules meetings and rules testing.

Whitney and her husband David live in Ogden with their two children, Brooklyn and Brody.

Whether you stop at the IHSAA office or attend a State event, please take moment to say hello to Whtiney and share your appreciation for the work she does!
