Dear Work That Reconnects Network Family and Friends,

A couple of days ago, we (Frieda and Paula, the editors of this newsletter) had the pleasure of interviewing two prospective members of the Network’s Communications Committee. These two women, one from the Republic of South Africa and one from Australia, shared with us a bit about their lives and about how the Work That Reconnects has impacted them. We are both from the US, and trading stories about our experiences of the world, in the expansive but interconnected global web of the WTR community, meant a lot. We hope that each of these women chooses to add their unique perspective and skills to our efforts at the Network – and we look forward to introducing each of them to each of you.

See below for opportunities to engage and contribute to the growth of the Network, including the next in our series of Conversation Cafés. Following the beautiful and intimate webinar with Miki Kashtan, Liberation for All: Bringing Tenderness to Conversations about Power and Privilege, we will gather and explore what emerged. We welcome the community to join us.

In closing, we offer Joanna Macy’s reflection on one of the profound gifts of Work That Reconnects workshop spaces:

Once again, I experienced it: when we open together to the suffering around us, we become more real to each other. Even in the midst of grief and fear, we are not alone. The mystery at the core of our existence is that simple: we are held in a web of mutual belonging.

Yours in the Great Turning,

🌀 Work That Reconnects Network Weavers Team

Great Gratitude for Giving Tuesday Generosity
Thank you to all the contributors to our #GivingTuesday campaign. The outpouring of support from our beloved community enabled us to exceed our $5,000 #GivingTuesday Challenge Goal!!

To celebrate this success, the Sitka Fund has generously pledged to increase their match on all #GivingTuesday2022 gifts up to $7,500! We’ll keep counting Giving Tuesday donations through the end of day on Dec 1. Let’s pull out all the stops for one final push!

If you are able, please donate now so we can meet this new Goal!

Conversation Café on Liberation for All

Friday, December 9
5 – 7pm PST (UTC-8)

Following on from the rich exploration of Liberation for All: Bringing Tenderness to Conversations about Power and Privilege, presented by Miki Kashtan in one of our recent webinars, this Conversation Cafe will give us the opportunity to explore these concepts more deeply and discuss how they can inform our service to the Great Turning, our work as WTR facilitators and participants, and our engagement with co-liberation for all.

Experienced and emerging facilitators, as well as WTR practitioners, are invited to come together to share your insights and learn from your community.

Call for Submissions – Due December 15
For the next issue of Deep Times, to be published at the March 2023 Equinox, the editorial team has decided to have an open theme. We have many submissions on hand from past issues (which didn’t quite fit previous themes) that we’d like to share. Moreover, some of you may have responses to articles and poems in previous issues, or the themes of previous issues, that you would like to submit. So please do! For the first few issues of our journal, we didn’t have themes, although one nearly always emerged. So that may happen this time, too.

We really enjoyed the bi-lingual submissions we received for the September 2022 issue and welcome submissions from around the world in your mother tongue as well as in English translation. We especially want to feature People of the Global Majority and youth writers and artists.
SPECIAL CALL:
The Words That Reconnect – An Invitation to
Co-create an Emergent WTR Vocabulary

This is an invitation to co-create, (re)imagine and (re)interpret as well as (re)embrace an emergent (or latent) vocabulary for a deeper sense of connection that reflects our current times and the need for socio-economic, cultural, and environmental change. A vocabulary that also reflects the diverse contexts in which WTR is now being practiced.

You are invited to share with the Deep Times Journal, words you have come across, words that have emerged out of your practice or words from your ancestral or/and indigenous traditions that can help us engage and contribute to the Great Turning. These can be in any language.

The deadline for submissions to this article and the full journal are December 15, no exceptions. Submissions can be sent to:
deeptimes@workthatreconnects.org.

⇢ Read both the full call and the special invitation here.
A Year with Rilke for Our Lives and Our World
with Joanna Macy and Anita Barrows
Joanna and Anita — admired for their exquisite translations of Rilke's work — will share with you, in twelve monthly online sessions, the heightened sense of beauty and wonder that a poem can ignite. In this program, offered for the first time, you will discover your own creative response to the perils and promise of our time. This year-long offering, hosted by the Rowe Center, runs from December 11 – January 14, 2024.
