First Sunday of Advent

This message should be reaching all of you a day early as the church office will be closed this Thursday in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday! After our Thanksgiving celebrations have commenced, we will be gathering together on Sunday to celebrate the first Sunday of Advent. You will see that our temporary sanctuary at Steeple Square was beautifully decorated by our board of Deacons after church last week. Some of you may notice that we are using the color blue rather than the color purple this year for the liturgical season of Advent.  While purple is the normal color associated with Advent it is also the color used for Lent.  The color blue can be used during Advent to distinguish the season from Lent. The UCC website states that: "As the color of the night sky, Blue symbolizes Christ who in one ancient Advent song is called the "Dayspring" or source of the day. As the color associated with Mary, Blue also reminds us that during Advent the church waits with Mary for the birth of Jesus." So we are using the color blue this year (which also happens to be my favorite color)!

I want to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and I will see you in church!

“STOCK THE STABLE” ADVENT DRIVE NOV 27-DEC 20
This year we will be “Stocking the Stable”.  Mary & Joseph were looking for a place to lay their heads, and The Stable would need to have supplies for guests passing through. As our Board of Missions and Pastor Kaity have been doing outreach in the community, we have learned there are 40 children on a waiting list for a bed to sleep in. We have partnered with B1 Yoga to benefit Opening Doors/Teresa Shelter and Resources Unite to make the holidays brighter for our neighbors. What can you do?? Pick an ornament out  of the gold gift box by the welcome table starting November 27 and bring back to the Christmas Tree on Sunday mornings, write a check for $65.00 to purchase a bed (payable to First Congregational) OR BOTH! Bed donors will be put in a drawing for a chance to win a free year of Yoga at B1 Yoga!!!

Thank you…

Hi Church family,

I wanted to show you what you made possible by being a Sponsor Angel and giving to our kids. Here’s the story.

Last year one of our amazing kids, Jakirah, shared that her greatest wish was to go shopping for St. Mark kids. And becvause you said, yes, that's exactly what we did last week with her and her sister Janiyah!!!

If you have just a few moments, we got it all on video and we’d love for you to see just how much joy you brought. It's just a minute and a half and I hope it brings you as much joy as it brought these kids.

Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for making this possible and for supporting our kids!!

With big hugs,

Beth McGorry
