It's feeling really festive now at Riverside and we are excited to welcome you this December, whether you're shopping for a tree or wreath, looking for gifts for a loved one or just fancy a cosy moment in our café. As usual, we will be serving up free minced pies and mulled wine each weekend this month and will have a free children's lucky dip for families buying a tree. We hope to see you soon!

It's Christmas tree time!
Riverside's Christmas trees are now in! Our cut trees this year are the very popular 'non-drop' Nordmann Spruce, the traditional Norway Spruce and the narrower Fraser Fir. We also have live, pot grown trees - these are Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce and Nordmann Fir.
Our pot grown trees are truly pot grown, which means that each has been grown from a young seedling in its own special pot that allows its roots to extend out into the soil of the field in which it is grown, making for a strong and vigorous tree. After several years the pot is lifted and the excess roots snipped, and the tree is then ready to be sold and to find its way into your home.
All our trees come in a range of prices, heights and shapes, but get in early to have the widest choice!
We are also donating £1 from every Christmas tree sale to St Werburghs City Farm's crowdfunder, to help support the services they provide to young people and adults experiencing mental ill-health this winter.

Christmas tree care
Cut trees
Keep your tree outdoors until you are ready to put it up. Your tree will require water to help it stay fresh and green throughout the festive period, so make sure you have a stand that can hold water (and keep this topped up!). To help the tree take up as much water as possible you may wish to saw off the first few centimetres of the trunk before placing it in its stand.
Pot grown trees
Water it well when you get home, and when you bring it indoors make sure you keep the soil moist (don’t forget to place the pot in something to hold excess water). After the festive period take your tree back outside. You can keep it as a potted tree, potting it on as it grows, or can plant it out in your garden.

Handmade for you
We have a beautiful selection of wreaths this year to help you add a seasonal, welcoming touch to your front door. Part of our range comes from a nursery in Herefordshire, who design and hand decorate the wreaths according to the latest trends in home decor. In addition, we have our own exclusive range of wreaths, hand decorated right here at Riverside by our own talented staff using as many natural materials as possible. We are really enjoying creating these for you and hope you'll love them too!
We have also been busy making up our signature potted arrangements for you, also planted up right here at Riverside using our favourite seasonal plants. They are perfect for adding a colourful flourish to your outdoor space or for giving as gifts. The pots themselves are fully weather hardy so can also be updated or replanted across future seasons.
Our Kokedama, also handmade at Riverside, have also made a return this season after proving popular last Christmas. For those who haven't come across them yet, Kokedama (Japanese for 'moss ball') are made using soil, moss and a suitable plant such as a fern or ivy. The resulting creation can be suspended outdoors as an unusual alternative to a hanging basket.

Captivating Christmas cards and gifts
Our shop has been transformed into a treasure trove of gift ideas. Come in and browse decorative homewares, tools and other thoughtful gifts for gardeners, tree decorations both elegant and playful, and books, including some by local authors. We also have a wonderful collection of Christmas cards taking inspiration from the natural world.

Plant pressies
As Riverside customers you surely know this already, but plants are some of the most wonderful gifts of all! And we have many, many to choose from...
Indoors, as always, you'll find a verdant array of houseplants to suit all sorts of tastes and locations. These are joined by some festive guests, including Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera) and the ever popular Poinsettia. Come and have a look to see what's in this week, and please don't hesitate to ask us if you need any help choosing!
Current highlights amongst our outdoor plants include Camellia (both autumn/winter flowering and spring flowering varieties), Skimmia (including the classic 'Rubella' variety with its striking red buds) and Lemon trees, which continue to be one of our most popular gift plants.

Riverside Café at Christmas
Warm up with a hot drink, a tempting cake or something nourishing from our winter menu. We also have delicious chutneys, jams, marmalades, chocolate (including vegan), biscuits and fudge for sale - perfect as stocking stuffers or as the makings of a Christmas gift hamper.
