NPA denies collecting jetty charges in dollar

Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) has denied collecting jetty charges in dollar, explaining that the services rendered operators are entirely billed in naira.

The clarification followed claim by oil marketers that the Authority and Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) were yet to comply with Federal Government’s directive on naira transactions at the ports.

The accusers had said they have been constrained to import products due to alleged dollarisation of operations and critical activities by the two government agencies.

Nigeria to produce additional 255,000 bpd

Nigeria is set to produce additional 225,000 barrels per day, bpd, as Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited, SNEPCo, has completed the 2022 Turnaround Maintenance, TAM, of the Bonga floating production storage and offloading, FPSO.

The FPSO was shut down on October 18, 2022, due to the statutory inspections, recertifications and other critical asset integrity restoration activities.

In a statement, yesterday, the company confirmed that the TAM was completed on November 9, 2022, adding the commissioning and start-up activities are currently in progress.

It stated: “SNEPCo is pleased to announce that the 2022 TAM of the Bonga floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) has been completed.

IMO Secretary-General arrives Nigeria for International maritime summit

The Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization, Kitack Lim, is scheduled to visit the Federal Republic of Nigeria from November, 20 — 22, 2022.

During his visit, the Secretary General will attend the Nigeria International Maritime Summit 2022 where regional policies and operational perspectives to Decarbonization and Green House Gas Emissions in shipping will be the focus.

The Federal Ministry of Transportation and its agencies in collaboration with the organized maritime private sector under the auspices of Nigeria International Maritime Summit, are hosting the event.

The Minister of Transportation Engineer Mu’azu Sambo said the Federal Government is committed to ensuring Nigeria becomes a major destination for global maritime players.

UTM Offshore, JGC, Technip Energies sign agreements on Nigeria’s FLNG

Nigeria’s quest for energy transition received a huge boost on Wednesday as an indigenous firm, UTM Offshore Limited, signed agreements with three technical partners, Kellogg Brown and Root, KBR, UK; Japan Gas Corporation, JGC, and Technip Energies Limited, for the commencement of the Front End Engineering Design, FEED, for Nigeria’s first Floating Liquefied Natural Gas, FLNG, facility. The agreements were signed at a brief but colorful event at the Hilton Park Lane, London, UK.

The Front End Engineering Design, FEED, contract with the three firms essentially entails conducting for UTM Offshore Limited, various studies to figure out technical issues and estimate rough investment costs for the FLNG facility prior to the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction, EPC, phase of the project. The timeline for this phase of the FLNG project is 10 months.

U.S. fingers Iran for attack on ship in Gulf of Oman

The United States said an Iranian drone was probably responsible for an attack on an oil tanker linked to an Israeli billionaire on Tuesday night.

“There is no justification for this attack, which is the latest in a pattern of such actions and broader destabilising activities,” National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said in a statement Wednesday.

He said Iran is increasingly using drones “directly and via its proxies throughout the Middle East and proliferating to Russia for use in Ukraine.”

On Tuesday, Eastern Pacific Shipping said its ship, MV Pacific Zircon was hit by a projectile 241 kilometres from the Omani coast at about 7.30 p.m. local time.

UK offshore workers down tools over pay dispute

UK’s Unite union has confirmed that around 146 offshore workers employed by Petrofac on the Repsol-operated assets in the North Sea have opted to take strike action due to a dispute over pay terms and benefits.

This comes two weeks after the union served a notice of action to Petrofac.

In an update on Wednesday, the union disclosed that the strike is going ahead and outlined that its members, which are working for Petrofac on Repsol’s platforms, will take part in industrial action starting on 16 November 2022 with a continuous overtime ban and 48-hour stoppage on 16 and 17 November.

Additional work stoppage, according to Unite, will take place on 30 November and 1 December.
