Revolution Day-Nov 20, 2022

First, I would like to thank Clare Pearsey, Sue Fornoff and all the volunteers at the Bucerias clinic this week where we sterilized 183 dogs and cats. This amazing clinic site runs like clockwork thanks to all the volunteers and the vets!
Our board member Roie Griego and her partner Thomas came to the clinic. They were so impressed with the vets, Paws & Claws and all the volunteers and the people bringing their pets.

Revolution Day in Mexico is November 20th and now a federal holiday on the third Monday of November. Here in Puerto Vallarta and environs there are many parades today. The holiday commemorates the uprising against Porfirio Diaz’s dictatorship. On November 20th, 1910, Francisco Madero publicly condemned Diaz and declared himself the new president of Mexico. Diaz ruled Mexico from 1871 to 1910 off and on but the majority of 35 years! During Diaz’s years the economy saw good growth, but discontent grew because the wealth was concentrated among the upper class while the lower classes were stuck in extreme poverty.
When Madero became president there was a 10-year struggle that eventually brought peace order and a new constitution for the nation. Now, the irony was that Diaz originally came to power saying he was the hero of the lower classes. Madero who led the movement to overthrow him was from the upper class. Madero led labor strikes and gathered popular support. In 1910, the pressure on Diaz forced an election which Madero won. Rather than stepping down, he imprisoned Madero. By 1911, Madero was released, and Diaz fled to France.
Others like Pancho Villa, the “Mexican Robin Hood,” did rob the rich and give to the poor. Pancho Villa fought battles against the Mexican government and raided US border towns. While Emiliano Zapata took control of southern Mexico and warded off government forces for years. In 1920, Alvaro Obregon became president, and a degree of land redistribution was instituted. The new constitution had already been in place for 3 years. Peace finally prevailed. Revolution Day is now one of the governments designated three-day holiday weekends for all of Mexico. Viva Mexico!

Sin duda, son una de las organizaciones preliminares en el área que promueve y apoya la causa de la esterilización y castración de animales. Tienen una extensa red de voluntarios y donantes que ayudan a dotar de personal y financiar clínicas PEACE en el área. También proporcionan materiales y equipos de recuperación, transportadores adicionales, registros y formularios de certificados, y tienen un gran grupo de voluntarios que ayudan con el registro, la recuperación, la logística, la instalación y la limpieza. Cada animal recibe su propio asistente personal durante todo el proceso con Paws & Claws.
They are undoubtedly one of the preliminary organizations in the area promoting and supporting the cause of animal spay and neutering. They have an extensive network of volunteers and donors who help to staff and fund PEACE clinics in the area. They also provide recovery materials and equipment, extra carriers, registrations and certificate forms, and have a large pool of volunteers that help out with registration, recovery, logistics, and set-up and clean up. Each animal receives their own personal attendant throughout the process with Paws & Claws.
