Excellent activity between Chile and Panama on mining inspection resumes in-person RIAL/OAS cooperations
After more than two years of virtual cooperations, in-person RIAL/OAS bilateral cooperation activities returned. From November 14 to 18, Panamanian labor inspectors visited the Ministry of Labor of Chile to receive technical assistance on inspection for open-pit mining. Panama requested this cooperation because its first-ever open-pit mine is starting operations and, thus, they need to develop institutional mechanisms and knowledge around the industry. Chile, a country known for its strong mining sector, is particularly suited to provide this training. The activity included elements of both virtual and in-person cooperations, including preparation meetings and training through ZOOM, as well as on-site field visits to two mines in Chile, and thematic sessions at the Ministry to analyze the inspection processes in the two countries, especially related to Occupational Safety and Health in the mining sector. With this cooperation, the RIAL/OAS completes 127 bilateral cooperation activities.

The XI Inter-American Meeting of Ministers of Education, held on November 10 and 11, had as one of its main axes the intersectoral articulation between education, labor and health. As Chair of the Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor (IACML), the Minister of Labor, Employment and Social Security of Argentina, Raquel Kismer de Olmos, emphasized the importance of the deep collaboration that has taken place between sectors within the framework of the OAS since 2013, as well as the importance of strengthening educational systems and school-work linkages to ensure a future with decent work for youth. The clear recognition and willingness to continue deepening the spaces for intersectoral collaboration was reflected when it was incorporated as one of the pillars of the Second Phase of the Inter-American Education Agenda, adopted during the meeting.
