By the grace of God, we at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church are filled with the Holy Spirit and respond to God's love by sharing the Good News with our friends and neighbors. We go into our community and world to make a difference in the name of Jesus.

Waiting

Advent is upon us once again. Christmas is on the horizon, and we now wait patiently. Or do we? Waiting is not something we like to do. The late Henri Nouwen wrote in an Advent devotional about waiting:

In our personal lives, waiting is not a very popular pastime. Waiting is not something we
anticipate with or experience with joy and gladness! In fact, most of us consider waiting a waste
of time. Perhaps this is because our culture in which we live is basically saying, “Get going! Do
something! Show you are able to make a difference! Don’t just sit there and wait!”

What if we think of Advent as a time to reflect on our need to be busy and to “do” rather than “be”? What if Advent could be a paradoxical companion of patience during the harried holiday season? Advent reminds us that the nature of our waiting is not one of fear but of excitement and mystery. We wait for the fullness of God to be revealed more clearly for us, and God promises that the future ultimately will be good. As people of faith, we live into that mysterious future with hope and wonder of what God has in store. As Advent begins, let us wait together and celebrate this season of anticipation.

Blessings and peace,

Pastor Joel

The office will close at noon today, and will be closed tomorrow for the holiday.
