Make a difference on December 6th for Colorado Gives Day! Thousands of donors will be coming together to support many Colorado non-profits just like our office, the San Luis Valley Immigrant Resource Center (SLVIRC).
The donation given on Colorado Gives Day will allow the SLVIRC to continue serving immigrants through direct services and partnerships with other organizations.
Here are some accomplishments we would like to highlight for 2022 that we hope to continue on for the upcoming year.
SLVIRC continued to provide cost-effective legal immigration assistance to approximately 85 clients not just within the San Luis Valley, but across Colorado. The SLVIRC also served approximately 75 crime victims under the Por Ti Misma program by providing legal immigration assistance, and/or rental, utility, and emergency assistance. Under the education/outreach program, there has been approximately 30 students throughout the year who received free English as a Second Language classes, and 10 children have been able to receive free tutoring services with assistance from the Alamosa library.
We partnered with the 1st Southwest Bank on their Fortaleza Fund to provide funding and education for immigrant entrepreneurs and small business owners throughout rural Colorado. We also teamed up with the SLV Housing Coalition to inform residents of the Century Mobile Home Park about their tenant rights, and options as the mobile home park currently is pending for sale. Many of the mobile park residents are also former employees of the Colorado Mushroom Farm LLC who hadn’t been paying its employees for most of 2022. Fortunately, the SLVIRC was able to provide rental and utility assistance to many of the former workers to survive. The office also has been providing approximately 50 food boxes on a monthly basis, of whom the majority who received it are former employees of the Mushroom farm.
These are just some of the many services and programs that our clients have benefited from. Our goal is to continue serving our clients so that they can achieve sustainability. With your donation, our work will be carried over to 2023, and you will make a tremendous impact on many lives.
