Congratulations to the latest student that came and built his guitar with me here at the O'Brien Guitars workshop.  This student came all the way from Peru last week to spend six days with me building a beautiful classical guitar.
At the end of the six days he not only had a concert quality instrument but also the know how to reproduce the process in his own shop. I expect to be getting pictures from Peru soon of a guitar on his bench.
One of the things we discuss in my classes is the tools and jigs needed to build a guitar. This saves people a lot of money in the long run because they learn what they actually need and more importantly what they do not need to build a guitar. One tool that is a MUST in every luthiers shop is what is known as a Safe- T - Planer. This tool turns any drill press into a planer! We use it on Day 1 of my classes to thickness the back and sides before bending. It is a real time saver and one of the most used tools in my shop. The only place I know of to get this tool is through Stew Mac. I have even prepared a quick video below that shows you how I use this tool. Stew Mac is having a BLACK FRIDAY SALE.
