Dear friends and partners,
Happy Thanksgiving! While there is plenty of work ahead, there is also so much to be thankful for this holiday season. I’m grateful for the teachers and school staff working tirelessly to drive progress for our students, for the collaboration of our families and partners to support the success of our school communities, and for the continued efforts of the District to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive in LAUSD.

This semester kicked off the third year of our Youth Advisory Council (YAC), comprised of juniors and seniors from our Board District 4 high schools, like Mayukha Taliki, an 11th grader at Taft HS. Mayukha’s family is from India, and while she was born and raised in West Hills, the customs and traditions of her heritage still play an important part in her life. In school, Mayukha enjoys advocacy, public speaking, and science. She is very involved in Debate and Model UN, and is currently working on creating a junior debate league for middle school students. We are lucky to have talented student leaders like Mayukha represented on the YAC!
