Diatom Quilt Along

Curious about what natural Diatoms look like? I found a beautiful online gallery, Diatoms of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, which are a small part of an online database of the Diatom Herbarium that includes 63,000 diatom slides and 12,000 samples. The article / slide show also shares a bit more about the importance of diatoms to our planet.

Earlier this week I received a wonderful question from a quilter who needs to use AccuQuilt dies to cut her fabric. In reply, I created an AccuQuilt Accessibility Information PDF (linked below) for the Diatom Quilt Along so that you can see what cut sizes are needed for each block. Depending on what you have available, Block 11 is likely the block that does not immediately lend itself to being cut using normal die cutter sizes. An easy solution for Block 11 would be to make a second star block of one of the other blocks or you could choose to make fewer blocks for a slightly smaller finish.
