The Food and Nutrition Services department provides quality nutritious meals to patients, visitors and staff while educating on the importance of healthy eating habits. It also works with medical staff to ensure accurate diet modifications for patients as needed. The department is responsible for performing a variety of general preparation and food service activities, including tray assembly and delivery, working in the cafeteria, cashiering, ware washing, assisting with pantry functions, nourishment activities and catering.

Participates in a wide variety of activities associated with the NNRM project and the Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) at the Puuwaawaa State Forest Reserve (PWW) and Puuanahulu Game Management Area (PAHGMA). Assists in the restoration, outplanting, and maintenance of native Hawaiian plants and restoration areas, including rare, threatened, and endangered species. Assists in a variety of activities relating to habitat restoration in the project area including:

1) driving project vehicles to conduct outplanting activities, and monitoring native and threatened and endangered plant species, 2) controlling non-native plants through chemical and mechanical means, 3) up-potting and maintaining plants in the NNRM Native Plant Nursery, 4) managing plant pathogens and insect pests in the nursery, 5) coordinating and leading groups of volunteers and interns in outplanting activities to meet yearly outplanting goals, 6) constructing, checking and repairing conservation fences, 7) collecting technical field data and entering data into the database using smart devices.

Plans, coordinates, and facilitates wildland fire prevention and pre-suppressions actions to reduce hazard and fire fuels in and around the project area. Drives to field sites to implement fire pre- suppression actions through vegetation control through manual and chemical means in challenging terrain. Ensures successful completion of projects and participant safety. Works with NNRM Staff, partners, collaborators, and permit holders to coordinate volunteer service projects, restoration activities, and outplanting and weed removal efforts. Designs and creates displays, presentations, websites, social media, various documents (e.g., flyers, handouts, brochures) and related materials for use in fire prevention outreach and education events. Attends and helps plan community and outreach events to educate the community on wildland fire prevention and pre-suppression.

Biochemical Laboratory Technician (Temp)

The Soest Laboratory for Analytical Biogeochemistry is currently looking for a temporary biogeochemical laboratory analyst/technician. The hourly wage is $25-30 an hour, but this rate is determined by prior experience. Duties include preparing and analyzing natural samples, assisting in general lab procedures, reviewing for quality assurance and control, and much more!
EDUCATION/TRAINING: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Oceanography, Chemistry, Geology, Biology, Marine, Environmental Science, or related field.
EXPERIENCE: One to three (1-3) years of experience in a science research lab setting.
