This week, we take some time to pause and be grateful for the many blessings we have. This is one of the few American holidays we celebrate as a school. We feel it is worthwhile, as the world we live in continues to be driven by consumerism and materialism. It’s important to take a moment to be grateful for the people and things that are truly important in our lives.
As I was trying to explain the concept of being thankful to my middle school SAT group, we came to the conclusion that thankfulness is meant to be shared. If you are thankful for someone, you should tell them. We also want to thank God for the many blessings He has given us, both as individuals and as a school community. I want to put that thought into practice by publicly announcing some of the things for which I am thankful this year. This list is definitely not exhaustive, but I’m trying to keep within my allotted word count for this article. (And yes, I’m grateful for the Dalat News editors too!)
I’m thankful to God for His many years of blessing on Dalat International School. We could not have continued to thrive through three countries, two wars, a tsunami, and a pandemic without God’s favor. God has been so faithful to protect and provide for us, and we know that He will continue to do so. God sends us the right teachers and students year after year.
I’m thankful to the staff at Dalat. Their passion for serving families is astounding and humbling. Teachers and other staff members are always trying to improve in what they do. They want their best for every single student every day. They lose sleep at night trying to come up with new ways to teach their students. They go home each day exhausted after a job well done and return to do it all over again the next day.
I’m thankful for Dalat parents. You entrust your kids to us every day, and we don’t take that lightly. You support and encourage us again and again. I’m particularly grateful for the amazing lunch provided by the PTO and other parents last week! You volunteer to coach, sub, mentor, and lead small groups. We could not do this without you!
I’m thankful for Dalat students. Students here are unique and special. Most of the time, they are glad to be part of this community and extremely enthusiastic about learning. Students value relationships with one another and with adults. It’s a rare and special thing to have the opportunity, as head of school, to still be directly involved with so many students.
Now it’s your turn! What are you thankful for? Take some time to tell people what you appreciate about them.

Did you know that “Great Is His Faithfulness” is an illustrated, historical book that chronicles Dalat’s history in its four locations since 1929? Learning more about Dalat’s 90+ year legacy is a great way to “reconnect” the school’s past with our present and serves as a reminder of God’s faithfulness in all our lives.
For a donation of RM200 or more to the 2022 Dalat Annual Fund you will receive a voucher to pick up a complimentary copy of this book from the Development Office.

Mark your calendars for Friday, December 9, because Christmas Mingle Jingle is back! All Dalat parents are invited for a morning of good company, great food, party games, favorite carols, gift exchange, and special music at the Dalat Vintage Chapel (our last event in this beloved location)! Parent & Technology Workshop
어머니들을 위한 학부모&테크놀로지 워크샵 ・ 妈妈们的父母与技术研讨会
Parenting teens in this technology-centered time is a challenge. For this first Parent & Technology Workshop, we invite moms to participate. In this six-week session, the group will watch videos from experts in their fields. Videos are created by AXIS.org, an organization that assists parents in talking about teen culture, social media, screen time, technology, and other important topics. Starting December 1, we will meet weekly on Thursdays from 8:15 to 10:55 a.m. to build relationships, discuss challenging issues, and increase our biblical wisdom – together! The meetings will be held in the Student Center. Register here to join us or email Lori Miller for more details.
Reminder Announcements
알림 공지 提醒公告
Pickup and Drop Off Safety ・ 등하교 안전 관련 사항 ・ 接送安全
This is just a friendly reminder that we ask our community not to stop on the main road outside of campus for pick-up or drop-off. Traffic that stops, blocks visibility for those turning out of the parking lot and impedes the flow of traffic along the main road and on campus. Thanks for your cooperation.
Parents or guardians who plan to be out of town must make guardianship arrangements for their child and communicate the guardianship information via a form located at the school office before leaving. Students should not be home alone overnight for extended periods of time. Students in elementary and middle school should have direct adult supervision for overnights. Dalat’s residence life division offers a short-stay program to provide supervision and accommodation to day students whose parents need to be away from Penang for a short time. Please click here for more information on the Dalat short-stay program or see the Parent Student Handbook.

Come cheer on D-League middle school soccer matches: Fridays (excluding holidays) beginning at 3:30 p.m on Dalat’s upper field soccer pitch.
