Synspective and GCRS announce partnership for SAR satellite-based risk analysis solutions in South Asia
Geo Climate Risk Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (GCRS) and Synspective have entered a partnership for satellite-based Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) solutions for critical infrastructure and mining industries in India and across South Asia.
Under this partnership, GCRS and Synspective will provide risk analysis solutions for critical infrastructure and mining industries to accelerate net-zero initiatives in the region. GCRS will also apply Synspective’s SAR satellite data to evaluate and map land subsidence/displacement along critical infrastructure systems and assets, including hydrocarbon and water pipelines, roads, and railway corridors. Find out more here.
According to the press release, both companies will pursue opportunities to estimate ground biomass using SAR data as well as develop near real-time predictive models to monitor floods and landslides. In this partnership, GCRS will apply Synspective’s SAR satellite data to evaluate and map land subsidence/displacement along critical infrastructure systems and assets, including hydrocarbon and water pipelines, roads, and railway corridors.
Satellite-based commercial Earth Observation (EO) solutions have paved the way for several industries to increase operational efficiency, as well as create business units using downstream EO solutions. Synspective is one of the SAR satellite operators increasing the footprint of commercial EO solutions in the global market. In our next story, we will be providing a brief outlook on developments in the satellite communication market with a similar commercial perspective.
NorthBase opens first commercial satellite ground station service supporting S- and X-bands in Finland
NorthBase has opened a satellite ground station called NorthBase-2, in Muonio, Finnish Lapland. It is the first commercial ground station in Finland, supporting downlink on S- and X-bands and uplink on S-band.
According to NorthBase, this station will serve as a Proof of Concept (PoC) for its future plans to expand business in 2023. The antenna is located above 68 degrees north and provides visibility to polar orbit satellites; a service currently available only in a handful of countries in the world. Find out more here.
NorthBase-2 is integrated into the antenna network of Contec and can be used by the web-based service platform ContecOne, providing access to all ground stations in the network. Therefore, NorthBase customers can benefit from the Contec ground stations to bring more capacity for their businesses.
Commercial developments in satellite communication are not only benefiting downstream industries but also the defense agencies. The use of the X-band has been traditionally observed only in the military sector, but the growing demand for commercial space technology integration in defense is creating opportunities for the commercial sector. Our next story again features commercial satellite developments but with more focus on the civil market.
Tizeti and Eutelsat collaborate to bridge Nigeria’s digital divide with community satellite broadband
Eutelsat and Tizeti have signed an agreement to provide internet services in Nigeria and enhance the connectivity footprint in the country's remote regions.
The partnership between Tizeti and Eutelsat will provide a complementary solution that leverages satellite broadband infrastructure and Tizeti’s community wi-fi management platform to deliver high-speed affordable public wi-fi hotspot service, especially in remote areas that are difficult to reach by terrestrial broadband infrastructure. Read more here.
The digital divide in Africa is gradually being noticed by several global satellite operators, and it is a window of opportunity for established operators like Eutelsat to cement their position in this market.
Such partnerships are essential to address the digital infrastructure deficits in emerging economies. They are also a pathway to enhance the overall growth of the nation's economy, as communication forms the backbone of both the public and private sectors.
