Las Esperanzas, Inc.
|
|
Las Esperanzas, Inc. is an educational, social and charitable organization established to advocate for the renaissance of the Mesquite Historic District and original townsite of the city of Las Cruces, New Mexico through the revitalization of our neighborhood, the protection of our culture, and the preservation and renovation of our buildings.
Las Esperanzas, Inc. was founded by Mrs. Consuelo Lerma, a native and lifelong resident of Las Cruces and elderly widow living in her home on the east boundary of the original Las Cruces townsite. After repeated, unsuccessful attempts to get assistance from the city to stop the deterioration of the neighborhood, she formed an alliance in 1999 with several of her neighbors and friends. They called themselves Las Esperanzas, meaning The Hope. Meetings were held in neighborhood homes and communication increased between the police and the community. One of the original Directors was Police Officer Gallegos. His interest spread to others on the force and soon the A. Fielder Safe Haven Weed and Seed Program was born.

CSL's 45th birthday

Nancy Walczak is calling for our spiritual community to donate gently used luggage and duffle bags to children in the foster care system. Many times, the child is given 10 minutes to pack up everything they own in garbage bags and is expected to move on.
Give the gift of a little dignity, and bring your donations to the office please.

CSL is collecting durable medical equipment. If you have a walker or a scooter or diabetic supplies or other medical items that you no longer need or use, please come by the office to make a donation.

is on hiatus until January 2023.

Learn the nuts and bolts of running the office and answering the phone. We are seeking a "backup" brigade of reliable volunteers for when our staff go on vacation or need to be out of the office.
Serve our larger community by giving some time in the Bookstore

There is an opportunity to staff the bookstore a few hours a week.
