Grower Engagement Meetings Start Next Week!

The Grower Engagement Meetings offer growers an opportunity to provide direct feedback to the regionally elected directors and staff from Alberta Canola.

We work for farmers, and we need to hear from farmers.

The Grower Engagement Meetings include guest speakers on canola agronomy and business risk management programs. Alberta Canola will take a deep dive into the emissions reduction plan and provide updates on the commission's activities, finances, and budget.

Strategic Shifts Are Taking Place at Alberta Canola

I’m Roger Chevraux, a proud canola grower from Killam, and your Chair of the Alberta Canola Producers Commission. I would like to share with you some updates on what the commission is focusing on to help canola growers succeed.
  • The first shift you will see is an increased emphasis on policy and advocacy
  • The second shift is in our research funding
  • The third shift is in our engagement efforts with the teachers, students, parents, and the community.
  • This brings us to the last major shift that the board and staff are committed to - that is engagement with growers in Alberta.

Canola Growers Welcome Investment in Indo-Pacific Trade Office

Canadian Canola Growers Association (CCGA) welcomes the Government of Canada’s investment towards establishing Canada’s first-ever agriculture office in the Indo-Pacific and boosting trade missions. The commitment to expand trade, investment, and supply chain resilience strengthens Canada’s position in the region and is positive for canola exports.

“The Indo-Pacific region presents exciting market diversification opportunities for canola farmers,” says Dave Carey, CCGA’s Vice-President of Government & Industry Relations. “The establishment of an Indo-Pacific agriculture and agri-food office recognizes the importance of this fast-growing, dynamic region to Canadian agriculture and of strengthening our trade and economic relationship.”

Alberta Canola Conference

Introducing the 1st Annual Alberta Canola Conference

The new Alberta Canola Conference along with the 33rd Annual General Meeting are coming to Lethbridge, Alberta in January 2023.

The Alberta Canola Conference and AGM will be held in a different location within Alberta each year to help ensure all growers across Alberta have the opportunity to participate and to have direct input into the organization.

Alberta Canola will live stream the Annual General Meeting each year to increase accessibility for growers across Alberta to vote on motions, resolutions, or elections that may take place.

There are three components for the Alberta Canola Conference  - here is what you need to know....

1. The Alberta Canola Conference is a canola focused event that brings together Alberta Canola and our national partners, the Canola Council of Canada, and the Canadian Canola Growers Association (CCGA) for interactive presentations on canola agronomy and policy.

2. Alberta Canola's Annual General Meeting will be held on the first day as part of the conference. Growers may choose to attend only the AGM if they choose, and the AGM will also be live streamed enabling all canola growers to participate and vote from anywhere in Alberta.

3. Alberta Canola's Research Symposium will be held on the afternoon of the second day. The symposium will focus on Southern Alberta this year. The event includes updates from researchers and more importantly, the opportunity for  farmers to identify what Southern Alberta's research priorities are now and in the future.

Bylaw Development

Regulatory Review - Alberta Canola Bylaw Development

As the Government of Alberta continues to reduce regulatory red tape, there’s an opportunity for Alberta Canola to help with this.

Marketing Council, the oversight body for the twenty agricultural boards and commissions in Alberta, has directed Alberta Canola to develop bylaws that will help update the Alberta Canola Producers Marketing Plan Regulation. This will improve the overall regulatory process and adaptability in a dynamic agricultural environment.
