Principal's Message
Apollo Eagles,
We are already into trimester 2 and students are off to a great start!  We are so proud of our Eagles and their classroom success during Trimester 1, and I am excited about how driven our students have been already in these first couple weeks. As we look at our academic calendar, winter break is coming up soon! The last day for students in the month of December is Wednesday, December 21st.  Students will be back in the building on Tuesday, January 3rd.
I am inviting all families to Apollo on Tuesday, January 10th for Family Conferences! We will have many wonderful opportunities for family and staff including: parent teacher conferences from 4pm-7:30pm, free dinner for all families that attend from 4:30pm-6pm, guidance counselors available to help with 2023-2024 registration and our site council meeting in the Resource Center from 5:30-6:30pm. The site council meeting will have our Apollo Administration there to share important information, and talk with you about questions, concerns, or ideas you may have! We look forward to seeing all of our families and students on January 10th!
Over the past month there has been exciting news about the future of Apollo, as we have been steadily making educational and facilities improvements. Last year, the Apollo cafeteria, entryway, and library received new furniture, every classroom had technology upgrades. an outdoor learning classroom was created, renovations were made to create a new orchestra room, and a new sound board was installed in the theater with some of these one-time funds.
Additionally, several projects are scheduled for Apollo during the summer of 2023 including:
-New classroom furniture for all classrooms
-New HVAC and LED lightning in C Wing
-An outdoor digital sign in the front of the building
-Roof replacement in B-wing
-Resurfacing the tennis courts
-Resurfacing the track
-Adding Field Turf
We are excited about the work that has been completed and will be done this summer and are thankful to our school district’s ongoing commitment to make sure our Apollo High School students have full access to learning opportunities. The Apollo learning community has incredible students, families and staff. Our administration at both the district and building level want to extend a sincere thank you for choosing Apollo High School.
Have a safe and restful winter break!
A Reminder For All Families
Our building doors open to students at 8:00am. Classes start at 8:30am. The school day ends at 3:15pm. All students NOT in an activity are expected to exit the building by 3:25pm. Please be on time to pick students up, and know that students will be asked to wait for their ride outside of Door 7 or Door 2. Be sure that students are dressed appropriately for the weather. If your family has any difficulty with obtaining cold weather clothing items, please let us know as soon as possible.
Resource Center
Welcome to second trimester! Please remind your child to return or renew any library books they have checked out. While there are no late fees for library books, there may be a charge for those that are not returned by the end of the school year. Students can stop by the checkout desk to find out what books they have checked out.

We are happy to share this tradition of offering some fun from the world wide web. There is something new to try during every day of the upcoming winter break. Preview the activities below or go to
https://tinyurl.com/ApolloStuffToDo to give them a try. The link will be shared with our Eagles just before the break.

Apollo Activities
As we enter the winter sports season, I want to thank everyone for their commitment and effort they give to Apollo and Crush activities. Some highlights of our year so far have included:
State Qualifiers in:
Cross-Country
Bowling
Adapted Soccer
Our Speech team held their first annual "Speech Week", highlighting all the wonderful things their program does and letting students know how they can join. The Apollo Theatre program brought so much laughter and joy this season with our fall musical, "The 25th Annual Putnam Spelling Bee". We held a 5k race here at Apollo at the end of October, which was a beautiful day of movement and community building.
For 2023, we look forward to seeing the successes of our athletics, the bright ideas and performances of our activities and clubs, and all of our families and fans that support our students.

Students of the Month
PBIS

The PBIS team focused on Gratitude this month. We were able to acknowledge how gratitude can benefit us as individuals, and we took the time to reflect on how gratitude benefits our school and local community. Our students were so thoughtful in their reflections, and we are certainly grateful for each and every student! We ended the month by playing a schoolwide game of BINGO during Eagle Time, a fun community building activity that had everyone smiling on a chilly morning!
November also found our Apollo Seniors as the winners of our November Attendance Class Challenge. Our amazing 12th graders got to celebrate their success with an ice cream party! We will be doing a month full of Attendance based incentives for students during December, and have many fun items available for purchase with our PBIS SOAR Slips.

BARR

Come and see our BARR bulletin board in the 400’s hallways at January 10th family conferences. Student I-time lesson projects will be on display.
One of the I-Time activities  in the month of November facilitated by the science department  was “Picture This.” The purpose was to help participants improve their communications skills, and realize the impact of multiple perspectives and how they shape our understanding. Ms. Smith, science 9,  was also partnering up with a student. Ask your Apollo student about this lesson.

If you have suggestions, feedback, or questions about BARR, please complete the brief questionnaire form at the link below:
