ALBANY PUBLIC LIBRARY
WELCOME TO DECEMBER
|
|
It’s hard to believe we are into the last month of the year! In reflecting on the last 12 months, it’s worth noting some significant events highlighting the importance of the library in supporting the community.
Who could forget the ServiceWA app and its impact, as people struggled to understand and download the technology? In Albany alone, the library team and volunteers supported over 700 people, face-to-face, with countless others helped over the phone, via email, or in personal interactions. The level of demand underscored the critical need for digital literacy programs in the community, and the library responded by employing a Digital Inclusion Officer to focus on developing programs and continuing the successful Digital Drop-In sessions.
This year saw the establishment of a new micro-library at the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre (ALAC), which has been a fantastic success, heartily welcomed by the community.
As confidence grew and people returned to the library, we saw an enthusiastic uptake of the fabulous events and activities on offer, much to the delight of the library team. Experiencing the vibrancy of the library space as people engage with and use the library has been a joy to behold. Recently two librarians attended the Celebrate Reading Conference in Perth and returned with many exciting ideas and activities to roll out in 2023. Watch this space…
The love of our work and by extension the community continues to inspire the library team, so we look forward to what will come next.
On behalf of the library team, we would like to wish you all a safe and joyful festive season.
Best wishes
Soraya
