Welcome to the Bath Knitting & Crochet Guild newsletter...
Hello! We hope your Christmas makes are coming along nicely, whether they're a gift to give or to keep for yourself.

Thank you to everyone who came along to the first session of the Bristol branch - it was a great morning and we might even need a bigger venue!
This newsletter has a couple of important messages about finding a new coordinator for the Bath branch (we'd love it to continue and hope you do too) and reserving your place at our December session (see you there!).

Could you be our new Branch Coordinator?
If you enjoy the activities of the Bath branch and would like to give something back to the branch and perhaps the wider Knitting & Crochet Guild, please do consider becoming the new Branch Coordinator.

After almost eight years running the Bath branch, Desiree has decided to step down at the end of the year as the Branch Coordinator. Could you be the one to pick up the reins and run the Bath branch from 2023?
We have a wonderful team assisting the Branch Coordinator, with Anna, Armelle and Clare helping out with planning and other tasks to ensure the sessions run smoothly. However, we do need someone to oversee it all and ensure nothing falls between the cracks.

We've put together a role description here, although this can be tweaked and tailored to how you want to run the branch. If you have any questions or would like to find out more, please email BathKCG@gmail.com by 31 January.

Brit knits: the UK labels making chic, planet-friendly pullovers
As we know... warm, cosy knitwear is key to any happy winter, but rather than turn to the high street for poorly made, rarely warm pieces, or expensive foreign brands there are options crafted by independent crafters on home soil.

Glasgow University Knits Pattern Book Launch
The origins of this book of knitting patterns inspired by the built environment of the University of Glasgow lies in research carried out by the 'Fleece to Fashion' team of historians in the School of Humanities into the economies and cultures of hand knitting in Scotland from the eighteenth century to the present - www.fleecetofashion.gla.ac.uk

The pattern book is the result of a collaboration between historians, the University Archives and a talented band of independent Scottish knitwear designers. Their designs are inspired by old and new elements of the university buildings, from the ‘gothic’ tower and cloisters to the modern perpendicularity of the University Library.

The book was compiled by Lynn Abrams, Christelle Le Riguer and Marina Moskowitz and features designs for garments and accessories modelled by the staff and students.

Magdalena Abakanowicz: Every Tangle of Thread and Rope
In the 1960s and 70s, the Polish artist Magdalena Abakanowicz created radical sculptures from woven fibre. They were soft not hard; ambiguous and organic; towering works that hung from the ceiling and pioneered a new form of installation. They became known as the Abakans.

This exhibition presents a rare opportunity to explore this extraordinary body of work. Many of the most significant Abakans will be brought together in a forest-like display at Tate Modern, London.

Until 21 May 2023. Read a review >> or Find out more and book tickets >>
