YOUR GIFT TO CFOIC SUPPORTS AND STRENGTHENS
 LOCAL JOURNALISM IN COLORADO

Today is #GivingNewsDay and the kick off of #newsCOneeds — a month-long philanthropic campaign that spotlights the importance of strong, independent Colorado journalism.

The Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition is part of this campaign because of the support we provide to newsrooms, big and small, all over our state.

Every day, CFOIC helps journalists (and members of the public) navigate Colorado's open records and open meetings laws and fight improper denials of access. We provide training, resources and one-on-one coaching, and get lawyers involved when necessary.

CFOIC publishes a free, comprehensive online guide to Colorado's sunshine laws, searchable and indexed by topic with links to pertinent statutes and case law. Our blog reports on, and explains, timely and relevant freedom-of-information and First Amendment issues.

"Thank you for being my journalism guardian angel."

DONATE NOW

CFOIC also identifies systemic government transparency problems that need fixing and works to get them fixed. Our efforts have improved Coloradans' access to digital public records and police internal affairs records, and they've led to a rule that requires judges to explain why court records are sealed and suppressed in criminal cases. We're now working with partners to address chronic barriers to obtaining public records in Colorado, including already-high fees that will rise again with inflation in 2024.

Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to the Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition for #GivingNewsDay.

From now until Dec. 31, the Colorado Media Project will match your donations, up to a total of $5,000. It's a unique opportunity to make your support for CFOIC count in a big way.

Colorado Gives Day donations also are matched by the Colorado Media Project and qualify for a boost from the Community First Foundation's $1.4 million incentive fund. You can give today through CFOIC's Colorado Gives Day portal. No need to wait until Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Our work is essential to a better-informed state and a healthy democracy. But it's not possible without your financial support. Celebrate #GivingNewsDay by investing in local journalism that matters. This is #newsCOneeds.

With gratitude,

Jeff Roberts
CFOIC Executive Director
