The 3rd Stroke Recovery and Rehabilitation Roundtable (SRRR3) is chaired by Dr Kate Hayward and Dr Gert Kwakkel. There are four individual taskforces, which are addressing the following areas in stroke recovery:
- Control design. Chaired by Dr Kate Hayward and Dr Catherine Lang and supported by 11 multidisciplinary experts from six different countries.
- Fatigue. Chaired by Dr Coralie English and Dr Gillian Mead and supported by 8 multidisciplinary experts from six different countries
- Outcomes of mobility. Chaired by Dr Gert Kwakkel and Dr Geert Verheyden and supported by 15 multidisciplinary experts from nine different countries
- Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation. Chaired by Dr Jodi Edwards and Dr Numa Dancause and supported by 11 multidisciplinary experts from six different countries.
The individual taskforces have been meeting regularly since February 2022 to deliver consensus recommendations in these four areas. In May 2022, the World Stroke Organisation (WSO) endorsed the goals of the SRRR research activity, which are consistent with the mission of the WSO.
A hybrid roundtable meeting is being held in Vienna in December 2022, prior to the World Congress of Neurorehabilitation Rehabilitation (WCNR) conference. A total of 35 people will be attending in person, with the remaining members attending via Zoom. Dr Nick Ward will be joining us in Vienna as our in-person meeting facilitator. There is also a symposium within the WCNR program, where an update on SRRR3 activities will be provided. If attending WCNR, please join this session on Thursday 15 December from 17:15-18:45 local time.
Collectively, the SRRR3 work will lead to the publication of four consensus papers in the International Journal of Stroke in the second half of 2023. Each taskforce will disseminate the outcomes at various scientific meetings, with 2023 meetings likely to include Advances in Stroke Recovery, American Society of NeuroRehabilitation, European Stroke Organisation Congress, and World Stroke Congress.
We wish to thank the following for their support of the in-person meeting: Moleac, IPSEN, Canadian Partnership for Stroke Recovery, and NHMRC CRE to Accelerate Stroke Trial Innovation and Translation.
