Welcome to our last Newsletter for 2022

Dear ISRRA members,
As 2022 comes to an end, we have a few very exciting updates and announcements, including more events and the launch of our much needed ISRRA website
ISRRA website official launch
Over the last few months. We have done some hard work in our small communications team in partnership with our first formal sponsor (Moleac) to create the ISRRA website. We are happy to announce that the ISRRA website is now live. Over the next couple of months, we will continue to add more contents and functionality. See more details on the web and how to access it below. Thanks to Juan Pablo Saa for taking lead on this; our partners at Moleac (especially Aaron Shen and Rocío Aguado who were closely involved in the development phase); and and all of those individuals who Beta tested. We appreciate your input. If you have any feedback or suggestions please get in touch.

Stroke Recovery and Rehabilitation Roundtables (SRRR-III)
Our Roundtable Task Forces keep making good progress. Officially endorsed by the World Stroke Organization (WSO), the teams are meeting this week just before WCNR in Vienna for their face-to-face component of consensus building. We wish them all the very best for the meeting and thank each and everyone for their commitment to building new consensus recommendations to guide future research.

World stroke congress (WSC) Toronto 2023,
A reminder too that the World Stroke Congress in 2023 in Toronto Canada has now called for workshop suggestions so do get your suggestions submitted (see below).

Are you doing a breaking trial and thinking about presenting it somewhere in Europe? talk to us and we will help you promote it
We have been approached by many organizations and journals this year to help boost stroke research in different platforms. If you are about to finish a breaking trial, see details below to present it at the European Stroke Conference (ESOC) next year.

Lastly, we would like to wish everyone in our membership a merry Christmas and joyful end of 2022

Julie Bernhardt, Chair Executive

ISRRA Website Launch
As mentioned in previous Newsletters, we have been putting in some hard work with our partners at Moleac to develop the ISRRA website. We are now really excited to say that the web is live and you can visit it on the link below:

Also, please let us know if you want to help us further develop our website. We are specifically looking for:
  • Any relevant information on stroke policy in your country (or internationally)
  • Reporting any bugs or issues you have had while navigating the ISRRA web
  • Sharing resources for stroke clinicians

Roundtable SRRR update

The 3rd Stroke Recovery and Rehabilitation Roundtable (SRRR3) is chaired by Dr Kate Hayward and Dr Gert Kwakkel. There are four individual taskforces, which are addressing the following areas in stroke recovery:

  1. Control design. Chaired by Dr Kate Hayward and Dr Catherine Lang and supported by 11 multidisciplinary experts from six different countries.
  2. Fatigue. Chaired by Dr Coralie English and Dr Gillian Mead and supported by 8 multidisciplinary experts from six different countries
  3. Outcomes of mobility. Chaired by Dr Gert Kwakkel and Dr Geert Verheyden and supported by 15 multidisciplinary experts from nine different countries
  4. Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation. Chaired by Dr Jodi Edwards and Dr Numa Dancause and supported by 11 multidisciplinary experts from six different countries.

The individual taskforces have been meeting regularly since February 2022 to deliver consensus recommendations in these four areas. In May 2022, the World Stroke Organisation (WSO) endorsed the goals of the SRRR research activity, which are consistent with the mission of the WSO.

A hybrid roundtable meeting is being held in Vienna in December 2022, prior to the World Congress of Neurorehabilitation Rehabilitation (WCNR) conference. A total of 35 people will be attending in person, with the remaining members attending via Zoom. Dr Nick Ward will be joining us in Vienna as our in-person meeting facilitator. There is also a symposium within the WCNR program, where an update on SRRR3 activities will be provided. If attending WCNR, please join this session on Thursday 15 December from 17:15-18:45 local time.

Collectively, the SRRR3 work will lead to the publication of four consensus papers in the International Journal of Stroke in the second half of 2023. Each taskforce will disseminate the outcomes at various scientific meetings, with 2023 meetings likely to include Advances in Stroke Recovery, American Society of NeuroRehabilitation, European Stroke Organisation Congress, and World Stroke Congress.

We wish to thank the following for their support of the in-person meeting: Moleac, IPSEN, Canadian Partnership for Stroke Recovery, and NHMRC CRE to Accelerate Stroke Trial Innovation and Translation.

Make sure to attend the SRRR session at WCNR on Thursday, December 15th at 3pm (local time).
