Thinking Translation
Entre Nous Series
 Hybrid Event | November 29 | 1:30 p.m. (New York) | 7:30 p.m. (Paris)

Join renowned theorist and author of Living Translation Gayatri Spivak for a conversation with the book's editor, Emily Apter, about approaching the comparative humanities as a site of translation. This online discussion will be held in English. The American Library will also stream the conversation in its Reading Room for a live viewing experience.

The Entre Nous series is co-organized by Columbia Global Centers | Paris, the Institute for Ideas and Imagination, and The American Library in Paris.

Creative Writing Master Class

In this Master Class led by journalist and author Colombe Schneck, participants will learn how to turn life experiences into material for writing fiction. Sessions will be held in English on the following dates:

Wednesdays, January 4, 11, 18, 25 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Saturday, January 28, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (breakfast and lunch included)

The fee for the course is 600€.

The Columbia Alumni Association of France and Infuse present a concert by Mivos Quartet and guitarist Nadav Lev. Mivos is "one of America’s most daring and ferocious new-music ensembles” (The Chicago Reader) while Lev has been hailed by Classical Guitar Magazine as “a talented and engaging musical performer."

Workshop

In celebration of its tenth anniversary, the M.A. in History and Literature program invites the public to a workshop on interdisciplinary research methods in history, literature, and anthropology. The workshop will be held in French.

This event is organized in partnership with the École normale supérieure and the École des hautes études en sciences sociales.

Spreading Sustainable Urban Solutions Around the World

Bridging local participation and international cooperation, municipalities around the globe have created innovative strategies to address the acute challenges posed by the climate crisis. Mayors of cities the world over discussed solutions to these challenges at events co-organized by City Diplomacy Lab at some of the most important international stages in November: the COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh, the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, and the French-speaking cities congress on diasporas in Tunis. STUDENT CORNER
Tatiana Köhler and Niko Angell-Gargiulo, both recent alumni of the M.A. in History and Literature program, have created the Desperate Readers Podcast to discuss great literature of the past and present. In each episode they read a book of contemporary world literature and pair it with a canonical Western classic to delve into shared literary themes and questions that writers keep returning to across space and time.

To mark the publication of Christelle Taraud's latest book, Féminicides, une histoire mondiale, the Paris Center hosted the author in conversation with Nadine Trintignant and journalist Natacha Henry. Watch their discussion here (in French).
