Meri Kirihimete from the Pōneke Promise team

It's been a jam-packed year for the Pōneke Promise and we've hit some significant milestones in the programme, it was nice to reflect on this with the partners at our final hui of the year in November - it truly is a team effort, and the ongoing partnership is what makes the programme so strong. We're all working together for the same goal - a safe, vibrant and welcoming central city.

We’re looking forward to continuing with the great mahi in this space next year, including the ongoing implementation of the Sexual Violence Prevention Action Plan, further design improvements to Te Aro Park and the opening of a central city youth hub.

Work is due to begin on a mural on the eastern facade of the St James Theatre on Monday 9 January. The mural, designed by mana whenua artist, Keri Mei Zagrobelna in collaboration with experienced muralist, Tina Rae Carter responds to the significance of the St James Theatre building and the site, acknowledging and drawing attention to the adjacent Te Aro Pā and Waimāpihi Stream, and responding to mana whenua values, in particular manaakitanga.
