MORavian Annual Social and Awards evening - save the date!

Join us for our annual social event and awards presentation evening, which will be held in the New Year, on Saturday 14th January. The event will be scheduled for early evening (possibly 5-8 pm, to be confirmed).  We have a local event at Quarry Wood earlier that day. The venue is also yet to be confirmed, but will be in a local village hall.
The evening will include:
- Club presentations -  a celebration of orienteering achievements by club members throughout the year.
- The Moravian Quiz, where you can test your mental skills, with questions set by our Quizmaster Alan Halliday.
 - Bring-a-plate for a sharing meal, co-ordinated by Andrew and Liz Campbell.
We will publish more details in the newsletter next week when the venue is confirmed.  This is a great opportunity to meet up socially, reflect on our achievements over the past year and look forward to 2023. So, save the date!

Northern Night Cup (NNC) update

Two events down, four to go…..
Some hardy night orienteers met at Dallas Dhu last week for Moravians first NNC event, and the second of the 2022/23 series of six.  Thanks to Steve Smirthwaite who planned and Nikki Howard who organised our latest battle with the dark at Altyre/Stoneyford.  Those who went out early dodged the snow showers, which came in later in the evening, and reminded us of the need to carry a cagoule when the weather is inclement. League results are being compiled this year by Angus Laird (INVOC), and can be viewed here.  The next event is tomorrow evening at Culloden.  Currently the event is still on, but the weather may yet intervene.  Full details on the INVOC website - check before travelling.

Scottish Orienteering Association Inter-Club championships 2022

Unfortunately the wintry weather resulted in the postponement of the final Regional event of the year at Balmedie, due to be held last sunday. GRAMP plan to re-schedule for later in February 2023. As a result, there were no changes in the league positions, and Moravians finished a very creditable THIRD place in both senior (for large clubs) and junior classes, which is an excellent achievement. Once again, we have punched considerably above our weight, finishing behind FVO and ESOC but ahead of MAROC. It was a real team effort across all age classes.   Finlay McLuckie deserves special recognition, coming an amazing second overall of all competitors. Full results can be seen here.

BASOC festive frolic

News from Lynne Walker of a novelty event just after Christmas…..
BASOC are having a fun activity in Ellan Woods at Carrbridge on Tuesday 27th December - during daylight! All are welcome to this informal event (with SI though!) and to bring their sandwiches along for a social chat in the hall afterwards. Details are on the BASOC website. If you plan on going, please pre-enter - to guarantee a map - by the end of Sunday 18th December.

Next Moravian local event......

Quarry Wood, Saturday 14th January. Entry details will be published on the web in due course, with reminders as usual in the newsletter and on facebook.
