and introduced the leaders of the iniatives to share information.

David O'Byrne

January 26, 1939 - December 6, 2022
Message from Nancy O’Byrne about her husband David O’Byrne....

My sweet Davey has passed into eternal life.  His wake will be Friday, January 13 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM and his funeral Mass will be Saturday, January 14 at 11:00 AM at St. Anastasia Catholic Church with reception to follow at the church hall.

The Mass will be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend.  For those in attendance, David requested that you please wear white or colorful clothes (no black).   

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Catholic Charities online at www.ccbdosa.org or to Kairos prison ministry at Kairos PCI, P.O. Box 3, Orange Park, FL 32067.  Nancy and David were active in seeking prison reforms and fighting against the death penalty.

Participate in discussion at St Johns County
2023 Legislative Session

All St. Johns County residents are invited to participate in the upcoming meeting of the St Johns County Legislative Delegation being held on Monday, December 19, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the St Johns County Commission Chamber Auditorium, located at 500 San Sebastian View, St Augustine, Florida.  Compliance with current CDC guidelines is required for the health and safety of all those in attendance.

Delegation Chair, Florida State Representative Cyndi Stevenson, announced the meeting on Monday.  In addition to Stevenson, the other Delegation members include House Speaker Designate Paul Renner, State Representative Bobby Payne, and Florida State Senator Travis Hutson.

“Discussion of issues regarding local legislation for the 2023 Legislative Session will be held at this time,” said Representative Stevenson’s District 18 Aide, Shorty Robbins.  “St Johns County Delegation meetings are open to the public and expected to be available live on local GTV.”

In advance of the meeting, prior to 12:00 noon on December 15th, 2022, anyone who would like to be placed on the agenda to present related public comments, materials, or handouts to the St Johns County Delegation, must contact Robbins in Representative Stevenson’s District Office by phone at (904) 823-2300.

Any required documents or materials may be sent by e-mail to shorty.robbins@myfloridahouse.gov, or mailed or hand-delivered to 309 Kingsley Lake Drive, Suite 902, St Augustine, FL 32092, prior to 12:00 noon on December 15th, 2022.

 Reminder!  The Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast
Compassionate St. Augustine has requested a table of 8 for the 2023 MLK Jr. Breakfast.  Tickets are $40 each.  Reservations for our table will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.  Compassionate St. Augustine has paid for the table, and attendees will reimburse the organization for their individual tickets. Contact Nell Toensmann, if you wish to attend.  904-484-4960 or nelltoensmann@gmail.com.

FREE CIVIL RIGHTS TOURS
OF ST. AUGUSTINE,

The ACCORD Civil Rights Museum is hosting free narrated  monthly tours of the Freedom Trail on the Old Town Trolley Bus with David Nolan, local historian. 

Compassionate Women have secured 14 places on the January 14 tour accommodating everyone who emailed and said they were available that day:

There were still places on all the other dates, and so those Compassionate Women who were not available on January 14th, are advised to book a place directly with Accord: please call/text Liz Duncan at 904-347-1382 to reserve your seat. The following dates are available:

February 4,  February 11 and February 18, 2023

The tours are compliments of the Florida Humanities Council. Tours begin at 9 AM, please arrive 15 minutes before departure. Free parking at the Willie Galimore Community Center, 399 Riberia Street, St. Augustine, FL where participants we will embark and disembark.

Compassion in Action
Focused on criminal justice and prison reform, the Compassion In Action Criminal Justice Reform initiative raises awareness, promotes progress, and creates change through education and action. For meeting dates and information: compassionstaugustine@gmail.com.

Compassionate Women
This multi-cultural group brings those of many faiths and cultures together regularly to get to know one another as they promote well being and understanding. Meetings and luncheons are held regularly, For information: Ervin Bullock at compassionatewomen1@gmail.com.

Compassion Through the Eyes of Children
This award-winning multi-phase initiative was originally part of the acclaimed Obelisk Art 450 project created to commemorate the 450th anniversary of the Nation’s Oldest City in 2015. The goal is to engage St. Johns County children, from diverse backgrounds and with wide-ranging aptitudes and exceptionalities, in discussions about freedom, democracy, human rights, compassion, diversity, and artistic expressions of those values. Environmental Justice Initiative
We strive for the well-being of our environment, the Earth, our home, and its ecosystems. As the Earth feeds and nourishes humanity, with food, water, air, shelter, warmth, energy, beauty, and companionship – so we also act as custodians of the Earth. The Golden Way
The Golden Way: Films that Make a Difference is an arm of the St. Augustine Film Society and a CSA partner. Their mission is to show films that discuss social themes with the hope of giving attendees a better understanding and appreciation of the differences that make up the human family.
