The City of Sun Prairie is proud to offer our community a variety of materials management services, most notably the refuse and recycling programs. Materials management is an important city service. Starting in 2023, both refuse and recycling collections will occur weekly!
The objective is to support our collective efforts to reduce materials sent to landfill, properly dispose of a wide variety of material types, and explore solutions such as composting and materials re-use.

Department Updates

Administration: We are excited to have been selected by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) as one of 12 communities nationwide to adopt the innovative solar permitting platform SolarAPP+.

Assessing: 2023 will be a revaluation year for all properties in the City of Sun Prairie and the Assessors Office will be changing all assessments to reflect market value on all properties as of January 1.

City Clerk: Residents in the City of Sun Prairie can be confident that votes were counted accurately in the November 2022 election following the completion of a post-election audit of voting equipment.

Community Spotlight: For the very first time, Sun Prairie West’s Asian Club is collaborating with Sun Prairie East’s Asian Club to partake in creating a Hmong New Year Show to showcase the Hmong Culture and the importance of why the Hmong people celebrate the Hmong New Year.

Finance: State Statutes and the City of Sun Prairie Ordinances require all dogs five (5) months of age or older, to be vaccinated for rabies and licensed. To learn more and access th payment portal, please click here.

Public Works: Due to Christmas and New Year’s holidays falling on weekends this year, there will be no delay in garbage and recycling collection for either holiday. Collection will be on schedule for the weeks of December 19, December 26, and January 2.

Sun Prairie Public Library: The library will be closed Friday, December 23-Monday, December 26 and Friday, December 30-Monday, January 2.
