6-City 2022 Credit & Wealth Tour!
December 8 in the Shoals (city of Sheffield at Rhoda P’s Restaurant) marked the final stop of 2022 Credit & Wealth Tour. The tour featured presenters: reality TV star of Love & Marriage Huntsville and consumer advocate attorney/business owner Maurice Scott, and ADS Wealth Management president and $200 million portfolio manager Antonio Sankey. Grants Promote African American Cultural Heritage Preservation
National Trust for Historic Preservation: African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund
The National Trust for Historic Preservation's African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund provides support to advance ongoing preservation activities for historic places representing African American cultural heritage, such as sites, museums, theaters, sports venues, churches, schools, universities, and landscapes. Grants ranging from $50,000 to $150,000 are made in the following categories: capital projects, including restoration, rehabilitation, stabilization, and preservation of historic assets and buildings; organizational capacity building; project planning; and programming and interpretation. Public agencies and nonprofit organizations, including state and local preservation organizations, churches, private colleges or universities, historic sites, museums, historical societies, and genealogical associations, are eligible to apply. Letters of intent are due December 19, 2022; the deadline for invited applications is April 7, 2023. Visit the Trust's Preservation Leadership Forum website for details on the 2023 program.
Program Advances Public STEM Efforts
National Science Foundation
The Advancing Informal STEM Learning Program seeks to fund research and practice, with a focus on investigating a range of informal STEM learning experiences and environments that make lifelong learning a reality. The current solicitation encourages proposals from institutions and organizations that serve public audiences and specifically focus on public engagement with and understanding of STEM, including community STEM, public participation in scientific research, science communication, intergenerational STEM engagement, and STEM media. Five types of projects will be supported: synthesis, conferences, partnership development and planning, integrating research and practice, and research in support of wide-reaching public engagement with STEM. The application deadline is January 11, 2023.
Low-Income Housing for Seniors Supported
Department of Housing and Urban Development
The Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program supports the development and ongoing operation of supportive rental housing for very low-income persons, aged 62 years or older. The Program provides elderly persons with the opportunity to live independently, but with important voluntary support services such as nutritional, transportation, continuing education, or health-related services. In addition, funds are available to support the development of intergenerational housing for elderly caregivers raising children. The application deadline is January 25, 2023.
Support Strengthens Women of Color Leadership in Southern States
Ms. Foundation for Women: Ms. South
The Ms. Foundation for Women's Ms. South strategy supports the leadership of women and girls of color (WGOC) and strengthens their ecosystem of leaders in 14 key states in the U.S. south: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. In this round of grantmaking, the Foundation will invest over $1,500,000 in support of WGOC-led groups across the spectrum of movement building and organizing. The goals are to strengthen the organizational and financial sustainability of an ecosystem of WGOC-led organizations, increase connectivity between WGOC-led organizations, and position WGOC leaders as key experts and decision-makers in shaping policy and culture change. General operating support grants of $20,000 to $50,000 per year for up to two years will be provided. The application deadline is January 13, 2023. Grants Available for Recycling Education and Outreach
Environmental Protection Agency
The Consumer Recycling Education and Outreach Grant Program is seeking to support projects that will improve consumer recycling education, with the goal of achieving separate collection of recycled material across the nation, maximizing the efficient reuse of materials, and identifying strategies that otherwise result in an increase in volume of recyclable materials. In addition, the Program is seeking applications for recycling education and outreach projects that address environmental justice concerns and focus predominantly on addressing the disproportionate and adverse human health, environmental, climate-related, and other cumulative impacts, as well as the accompanying economic challenges of such impacts, resulting from industrial, governmental, commercial, or other actions that have affected or currently affect people and communities of color, and low-income, tribal, Indigenous, and other vulnerable populations. The application deadline is January 16, 2023.
Support Available to Build and Refresh Community Spaces in Small U.S. Towns
T-Mobile Hometown Grants Program
The T-Mobile Hometown Grants Program supports small towns throughout the United States by funding community projects. Grants of up to $50,000 are provided to up to 25 small towns every quarter. The focus is on projects to build, rebuild, or refresh community spaces that help foster local connections. Examples of eligible projects include the town square pavilion, a historic building, an outdoor park, a ball field, a library, or any space where friends and neighbors connect. Elected leaders, town managers/employees, and nonprofit leaders in small towns with populations of less than 50,000 are eligible to apply. Requests are reviewed quarterly. Online application information is available on the T-Mobile website.
Grants Enhance Music Education for Children
Mockingbird Foundation
The Mockingbird Foundation provides grants to schools and nonprofit organizations in the United States that focus on music education for children, an area of importance to the Phish fan community. The Foundation is particularly interested in projects that foster creative expression in all musical forms, and encourages applications associated with diverse or unusual musical styles, genres, forms, and philosophies. Music education may include the provision of instruments, equipment, texts, and office materials, as well as the support of learning space, performance space, and instruction. The Foundation generally targets programs for children up to 18 years of age, but will consider programs that benefit college students, teachers, or adult students. The Foundation gives priority to programs that benefit disenfranchised groups, including those with low skill levels, income, or education; those with disabilities or terminal illnesses; and those in foster homes, hospitals, prisons, or other remote or isolated situations. Grants range from $100 to $10,000. Initial inquiries are due January 15, 2023. Application guidelines are available on the Foundation's website.
Grants Enhance Transitions to Employment for Black Youth in NBA Markets
NBA Foundation
The mission of the NBA Foundation is to drive economic opportunity in the Black community by funding programs that generate successful transitions from school to meaningful employment for Black youth. The Foundation supports national and local organizations, with priority given to those operating in NBA markets, which promote school-to-career employment opportunities, including job readiness, skill training, job placement, and career advancement for Black youth ages 14 to 24. Applicants must serve a minimum of 25 youth annually across their programs and be a registered 501(c)(3), if operating in the U.S., or a registered T3010 if operating in Canada. The Foundation is currently accepting grant applications for 2022 on a rolling basis.
