HOPE Recovered Newsletter November/December 2022

Great joy among the children and the youth

Christmas is the feast of joy. This is exactly what both the children of the library and the youth of HOPE Recovered were able to experience. It is a great privilege to give these incredibly strong children this great joy, both in the form of a Christmas present and the good news of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

New Gift Record

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to the gifts for the children and young people. The children will enjoy the stationery and toiletries. The library children also received a large box of LEGOs.
Even though we were a small team wrapping the presents, we were able to put all the presents together. We received 100 soaps from Eco-Soap Bank. However, we first had to pack each soap individually. But the beautiful shoe boxes from Butterfly feet saved us a lot of wrapping paper and time.
In total, we packed 100 soaps, 38 LEGO boxes and filled 60 shoe boxes.

Youth organizes their own Farewell party

This year the youth wanted a gala dinner as their Farewell. They put the program together themselves. They took on the roles of master of ceremony, DJ, honoured some of the leaders of the youth program and computer courses and showcased their talents. Almost everyone contributed something to the program. We are very proud of our youngsters and their development this year. It is a pleasure to see their eagerness to take the initiative.
In addition to Christmas presents, we also awarded certificates and honoured outstanding personalities for the first time this year. For example, a young man who was only absent once this year or a newcomer who positively impacted the group.

The 7 Investors Challenge

HOPE Recovered's vision is to create a fountain of hope for the young generation. The young generation in Lethabong deserves a chance for a successful future. But to escape the cycle of poverty, they need access to quality education, the opportunity to learn professional and entrepreneurial skills, and most importantly, finding purpose in life. They have the potential to make a meaningful difference in their families and communities as they follow God's wonderful plan, which will bring fulfilment to their lives.
With just 7 people, organizations or companies making a significant contribution, HOPE Recovered could acquire a 5 hectare plot of land on the outskirts of the slum to build such a Fountain of Hope. This requires a contribution of 70,000 CHF, USD or EUR from each of the 7 persons, organizations, companies or groups. Are you one of these outstanding people leaving a legacy that offers hundreds of children and young people a chance in life? Pledge your support today and allow us to submit an offer to purchase the property. Read more about this fundraising challenge.
Is this the future fountain of hope pouring into the neglected and disadvantaged community of Lethabong (meaning: a place of joy), replacing the hopelessness with joy and bringing its name to life?

Exam time

After the spectacular car racing trip at the end of October (read more about it in the October newsletter), we decided to cancel the computer courses for this year. The teenagers should use the time to prepare for the end-of-year exams.
Raphael offered to help the youth prepare for the math exam. Together they worked through some old papers.

Youth Discipleship

After a final lesson in November, we also stopped Youth Discipleship for this year. We are excited to see what next year has in store for us. We still face the following challenges:
  • the transport of the youth from the township to the Richli home.
  • the too small computer room
  • too few laptops

Library

We were again able to welcome some visitors to the library. In addition to our Mrs Pretoria Tshwane candidate Gontse, we had a visitor from Switzerland and a team from Germany. Many thanks to the two organizations Evangelism Explosion and Ihr soll Leben e.V., which regularly bring visitors to the library.
Reading and learning in the library continue. Some read on their own while others need a little help.
Sometimes the children listen with great interest when they hear stories, especially when Samy, the puppet, comes to visit.
Sometimes the older children also read to the younger ones.
Each child also gets individual support and attention. After all, we want all children to learn to read.

Who gets the crown?

Thank you to everyone who supported our Mrs Pretoria Tshwane during her candidacy. The grand finale took place on November 26th. The candidates presented themselves in 3 different outfits, introduced themselves to the judges and had to answer questions from them.

Gontse just missed the title of queen and was crowned the first princess. She is particularly proud of her award as the candidate, which stood out with her personality.
We congratulate Gontse on her success.

A worker is worth his wages

The HOPE Recovered volunteers, and the founding family do not receive a salary from the organization. Everyone should set up their support network. Support one of our volunteers financially:
  • Mpho: She is a single mother of 3 children and lives in the township near the library. She helps at the library.
  • Success: He is a young man (22) with a big heart for children. He wants to improve the lives of others. He helps out in the library and takes part in the youth program.
  • Brian: He is a husband and father of 2 children. He works during the week and helps with Youth Discipleship on Saturdays.
  • Gontse and Raphael: The founding couple with 3 children manages the organization from a to z and puts their vehicle and house at the organisation's service.

From Good Intention to Good Action

Did you ever wish you could make a difference but didn't know how? Here are some ideas to step into significance:
  • Visit the Library for children in the township. We would love to take you on tour.
  • Join the board of HOPE Recovered. We need a treasurer and a secretary.
  • Inspire others about the work of HOPE Recovered, raise awareness of the challenges of children and youth in the township and raise funds for the necessary HOPE Recovered Center in the township.
  • Offer your time and get involved in the lives of the children and youth as a volunteer.
Don't hesitate to get in touch with HOPE Recovered if you are interested in building the Kingdom of God with us - for His glory, for His honour and His praise.

Support a talented teenager

This handcrafted truck is still for sale. It is an ideal gift for children. For R450 (EUR 26.50), it's yours. With your purchase, you support one of our teenagers. Contact Raphael if you are interested.

Happy children at the Christmas Party

36 children took part in the Christmas Party this year. We celebrated at an outdoor pool. Each child received a red HOPE Recovered T-shirt to identify our children better. The pictures above show the boys and girls ready to jump into the cool water.
They enjoyed the time in the water, on the trampoline, the jumping castle and on the playground. The hungry bellies were filled this year with a menu from KFC. In addition to ice cream, there was also a delicious cake from Le'Porsh Sweet Creations this year.
Of course, the Christmas presents could not be missing either. The children couldn't wait to go home. Because at HOPE Recovered, the rule applies that gifts are only unpacked at home.
Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the Christmas party or generally supports HOPE Recovered. You gave these children an unforgettable day and made them forget their living environment for a moment. On this day they were allowed to be happy children.

We hope to release a little video about the Christmas Party this year. So stay tuned and follow HOPE Recovered on Facebook.
