DETAILS

The Selkirk True North Pickleball Tour in partnership with the Kingston Pickleball Club are very excited to be hosting the second Selkirk Team Challenge at their new facility.

This team event will have 8 teams, each with 2 x 4.5+, 2 x 4.0, 2 x 3.5 and 2 x 3.0 players. The 4.5+ players will act as team captains and are already in place. Registration will have 16 spots available in each 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0. Teams will be chosen by draft. We will be looking for CTPR ratings when filling these slots, self ratings must be verifiable by the tournament director in the absence of a CTPR.

Friday night will be a social night where you can meet your team, play some games and eat some pizza.

Saturday will be preliminary play. The 8 teams will be split into pools of 4. There will be 4 rounds of doubles play, 3 within your pool and one crossover. There will also be 3 rounds of "team" games where your entire team will face another team from your pool. The match will start off with the 4.5's playing each other for 4 rallies, then the 4.0's for 4 rallies, then the 3.5's for 4 rallies and so on till one team reaches 21 points (regular scoring).

Sunday will be playoffs with teams seeded based on Saturday results. The top 2 teams from Pools A and B will playoff for the A championship while the bottom 2 teams from each pool will playoff for the B championship. Playoff matches will be head to head with 3 rounds of doubles and 1 round of full team match.

All doubles matches will be worth 1 point. Team matches on Saturday are worth 3 points and will serve as a tiebreaker.

Registration will include:

- All 3 days of play with 10 doubles matches and 5 team matches.
- Team shirt.
- Pizza Friday evening.
- Lunch plus snacks both Saturday and Sunday.
- Franklin X 40 pickleball - Official ball of the True North Pickleball Tour.
- 1 x 2 hour pass to be used in the future to the new Kingston Pickleball Club.
- Entered for other random prizes.

Please ensure your correct shirt size is entered.

Another multi-sport Ottawa organization has added pickleball to its list of offerings - the Ottawa Sport and Social Club!

It will run Friday evenings from 6pm-8pm at Lester B Pearson High School on Ogilvie Road between Blair Road and Montreal Road.   It will start on Friday January 20, with 12 weeks of pickleball play.

Dates:
  • Friday January 20 and 27
  • Friday February 3, 10, 17, and 24
  • Friday March 3, 10, 24, and 31
  • Friday April 14 and 21

OSSC Pickleball Format
OSSC Pickleball is based on a drop-in style format. Your partner and opponent will be different for each game.  Players join an open game as the courts become available. You can stay and play the full amount of time, or ‘drop-in’ at your leisure in the allotted time. OSSC does not use a ranking system to indicate the different skill level of its members, nor does it use a system to impose time limits on matches. Rather, OSSC uses the "honour system" to keep track of who is next up to play. Be courteous by allowing players that have not had a chance to play or warm up to do so. No consecutive matches amongst teams or individuals.

Reminder: Local pickleball product advisors / distributers

Holiday gift shopping for yourself of others?

In my experience, employees at local sports shops don't know anything about pickleball or the pickleball products they sell, and the stores have very limited selection of paddles (and often they are on the lower price range/lower quality side of things).  We have a few local reps of major pickleball companies close to Ottawa Ottawa who can give advice on their pickleball products; many of these individuals have demo paddles that you can actually try out before making a purchase.
