The Number on the Floor

Dear Reader

I just love the way storytelling is an integral part of EOS learning and how we use it in our curriculum.

When we teach the scorecard, (when it's important that people understand the value of measurements and that whatever gets measured, gets done), we use the story of Charles Schwab.

Charles was running Bethlem steel in the early 1900s. There was one particular steel mill that was troublesome, that wasn't producing as much steel as the rest. So Charles went for a visit. As he approached, the shift boss just came off shift and Charles asked him, "How many heats of steel did your team produce on your shift?"
The shift boss answered, “Six”.
So all Charles did, was he wrote a six on the floor in chalk, where everyone could see it.

When the next shift came on, they asked what this was, and they made sure that when they left, there was a seven written down on that floor. This kept happening with every next shift. By the end of the week they were up to ten heats of steel per shift - up from the six, and this continued on, it drove production, growth and the competitive spirit, and it made the team so much stronger.

The same can happen with you and your business if you implement EOS. If you measure what's important and keep the score on the scorecard, and people are driving those numbers, magic starts happening.

Speak to me if you want to know more, and I'll show you how we can use a scorecard to improve your business.

Have a great week!
I hope you found this useful. More of the same can be found on LinkedIn or YouTube.
