Re: Winter Break

From December 24, 2022, through January 2, 2023, the campus will be closed in observance of the Institute’s special release days, and most on-campus services and administrative offices, including food services, will not be available. However, we recognize that some students need to remain on campus to participate in research activities, or because of challenges associated with international travel. Members of the Office of Residential Experience and Caltech Security groups will be on campus to ensure support for remaining students, and health and safety protocols will continue to be observed. Emergency on-call counseling services will be available, and the Athletic Center will remain open.

For graduate students living in residence on campus, we ask that you please complete the online Graduate Winter Break Housing form and identify the days you will be staying in Caltech Housing. The deadline to submit your plans for winter break is Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at noon. Students who remain in Caltech Housing over the break must continue to participate in the surveillance testing program. The surveillance testing program will operate over the break as follows:

Week of 12/19/2022 (2 samples required)
Drop-off bins open: Monday 12/19 at 8 a.m. – Thursday 12/22 at 11 a.m.

Week of 12/26/2022 (no testing required)
Drop-off bins closed

Week of 1/2/2023 (2 samples required)
Drop-off bins open: Tuesday 1/3 8 a.m. – Friday 1/6 11 a.m.

Graduate students who travel away from campus during this period are encouraged to take a COVID-19 test prior to returning to campus. Students who receive a positive result must delay their return to campus and report the result through the COVID-19 Reporting Application. All students who are returning to Caltech Housing should submit a sample to the surveillance testing program on January 3, or their first day back on campus.

We appreciate your compliance with our plans to keep the campus and our students safe and supported and we look forward to everyone’s safe return for the new term.
