Town Plan 2024 Meetings
The Town of Essex is holding community visioning meetings to kick off the 2024 Town Plan revision process. What is your vision for the future of Essex? What do you want to change in your community? What do you love about living in Essex? Your hopes for the future of your town can only be reflected in the plan if you show up and share them! The plan starts with YOU!

Veterans and Survivors Assistance Opportunity
Essex Free Library is partnering with the US Veterans Administration to offer information sessions for Veterans and their survivors regarding healthcare, benefits, and other VA issues. Bob Stock, the Veterans Outreach Program Specialist of the South Burlington Veterans Center will be at the library from 10:30AM-2:00PM to help Veterans and their survivors understand the new benefits under the recently enacted PACT Act. He will also assist with any VA issues they may be experiencing or answer questions about available health care and other benefits for Veterans and their survivors.

Classical Music by the Wu Brothers
Twin brothers Henry and Nathan Wu present a free afternoon of classical music for all ages! Since 2018, they have visited over 25 libraries across Vermont through Classical Music Encounters, a community performance series to introduce new audiences to the beauty and joy of classical music. Come hear beautiful music for piano, violin, and cello and learn about the stories that have inspired composers throughout the years!

Jigsaw Puzzle Swap
Looking for something new to puzzle over? Come to our Jigsaw Puzzle Swap! A few rules: puzzles must be complete, tape the container closed, and include an image of the completed puzzle. Children's puzzles (less than 250 pieces) may be swapped for children's puzzles and adult puzzles (more than 250 pieces) may be swapped for adult puzzles. Don't have any puzzles to trade? Come pick one out and then you'll have one to swap next time! Located in the main reading room!

Vermont Humanities Council's Vermont Reads 2022 Book Discussion
Please join Essex resident Leonora Dodge for a discussion of The Most Costly Journey / El Viaje Más Caro. As described by the Open Door Clinic in Middlebury, Vermont: This nonfiction graphic novel anthology presents stories of survival and healing told by Latin American migrant farmworkers in Vermont and drawn by New England cartoonists as part of the El Viaje Más Caro project - a healthcare outreach effort aimed at addressing the overlooked mental health needs of these vulnerable immigrants. The book is a collaboration between the Open Door Clinic, Vermont Folklife Center, UVM Extension Bridges to Health, UVM Anthropology, and Marek Bennett's Comics Workshop.

Much of the work on Vermont dairy farms is done by people from Latin America. The Most Costly Journey (El Viaje Más Caro) tells the stories of 19 of these workers in their own words.

If you are a native English speaker who wants to learn or improve your Spanish or if you are a native Spanish speaker who wants to improve your English, our Intercambio may be for you! For the first hour of every session we will speak exclusively in Spanish and for the second hour we will speak exclusively in English. Come join the conversation!

Where’s Waldo in the Library?
January 3rd-Jan. 31st
Waldo is here at the Essex Free Library…can you find him? Pick up a passport at one of the circulation desks and search the library for him! Each hidden Waldo has a stamp, so when you find him, stamp your passport! Turn in a completed passport (with all 15 stamps) for a chance to win a new copy of the original Where’s Waldo? book! Waldo will be hiding in the library on all three floors, so be sure to stop in and see if you can spot him!
