PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Shalom!  Thank you for the opportunity to serve as the incoming president of the Seattle Chapter of Hadassah in our centennial year.  I am standing on the shoulders of those who came before me. My goals for the chapter are to raise money for the Hadassah Medical Organization in Israel and to build community among Hadassah members here in Seattle.

I believe in Hadassah’s mission to support Israel through education, advocacy and youth development as well as supporting medical care and research at Hadassah Medical Organization.  That is why I invest in Hadassah.

I visited Hadassah Hospital in Ein Kerem in 2008 and was amazed. Three memories stand out: the care being given to patients from Israel and dozens of other countries around the world, the challenge of designing a hospital where the threat of bombs and terrorism is real and the beauty of the chapel adorned by the Chagall windows. The impact of the Hadassah organization is miraculous. The exceptional work that happens is possible because of the support that Hadassah receives from members like us.

Now that Ettie Davis, our past president, has moved to Philadelphia, I look forward to representing the chapter.  If you have a question or an idea, please contact me.

Warmly,

Julie Shumofsky Chivo
President

P.S. It is not too late to respond to our invitation to the January 8 installation. I hope you will join us.

Still Smitten With Deb Perelman  by Adeena Sussman

From Hadassah Magazine

Back in 2006, when Deb Perelman tentatively began blogging about food, she feared her efforts would end up lost in a digital desert. A passionate home cook who had worked as an art therapist, Perelman had a penchant for prose but a pronounced lack of food industry experience and contacts. FEATURED STORY
A New Start: From Refugee to Surfer
Meet Sasha who, after waking up in Ukraine to the sound of bombs, is getting the support he needs to build a new life at Hadassah Neurim Youth Aliyah Village, where surfing helps him adjust. One of the many powerful stories at Hadassah's Pride, our signature Convention event, you won't want to miss Sasha's emotionally moving moment. For many Convention attendees, being at our Youth Villages brought home the many ways Hadassah is building a strong future for a diverse Israel.
