Art Tip -
Make It Your Business

Make Your Dreams Come True
Most artists do not reach their ambitions of living the artist’s dream. That’s because they are not willing to endure the nightmares along the way.

The advice that follows is meant especially for those artists who want to make their living as professional artists. BE GOOD AT BUSINESS. An Artist with a mind for business can make their dreams come true.

Most artists also feel and say they don’t like business, they just want to do the art part, not the sales and record keeping. Most of these artists complain about why things aren’t going their way. They’ll blame the economy, the government, and all the ignorant people in the world for not appreciating their art.

There is also a prevailing stream of advice from success gurus that say, “Do what you’re best at and hire others to do the rest.” At its core, that is sound advice, except it can be tough for the many artists that don’t yet have the funds to hire great people.

My advice is to learn the things about business that you are not good enough at. Learn the math, learn record keeping, learn computer skills, and learn to get your work to those that love it!

If you spend half the time learning these things, as you do proclaiming your inability to do them, you will improve your business skills tremendously. Besides, your business is Your Responsibility. Even if you’re hiring great people, you need to know enough about their jobs to know if they're doing it well.

So keep plugging away at the things you wish you were better at. You can get good at them. It starts with the words that you say and write. Choose those words well and live by the power they possess. Artists, Get Good At Business if you want your visions to come to life.
