We’re here to help.

Apply for a Customized City Project with ElectriCitiesElectriCities’ Customized City Project program helps bring to fruition projects that advance public power and public power providers through education, branding, and/or promotion. Designed for Power Agency members, the program taps the expertise of our Corporate Communications team, including marketing and communication strategists, graphic designers, and writers.

Calling All Utility Directors

Join us Thursday, Dec. 15, for our next Utility Directors Advisory Committee (UDAC) meeting.

In this informative and interactive meeting, utility directors and key utility staff will get updates and dive into discussions on a range of topics, including:

  • Safety programs.
  • Expanding the joint purchasing program to address supply chain issues.
  • Efforts underway to support the priorities of the strategic plan unveiled in August.
  • The latest grant opportunities through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
  • Load growth in 2022 and our economic development team’s strategic plan.

Not sure whether you should attend? “Don’t let the lack of ‘director’ in your job title keep you away,” says Gregg Welch, Manager of Programs & Services at ElectriCities. “If your role involves being wholly or partially responsible for electric operations in your municipality, please join us.”

Welch says the UDAC’s purpose is to help ensure that ElectriCities is providing the support member utilities need. “The more input you provide and the more we all work together, the better we can target our resources to support you,” he says.

Secure your spot today! You can register to attend in person at our Raleigh office or online. Your confirmation email will include the link to attend online.

If you have questions or need help registering, contact Gregg Welch.

Pro Tip: You’ll register through the ElectriCities Portal. If it’s your first time accessing the portal, these instructions will help.

More Info on DOE GRIP Program Grants

In last week’s issue, we shared that the U.S. Department of Energy has opened first-round applications for competitive grants under the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnership (GRIP) Program, one of the more significant programs announced thus far.

Also last week, ElectriCities CEO Roy Jones alerted members to the DOE’s “Grid Resilience Innovation Partnership Program Funding Opportunity Informational Webinar” on Nov. 29. We’re hopeful a recording of the webinar will be released soon, and we’ll share it if and when it’s available. In the meantime, you may find it helpful to review this PDF of the slides from the DOE webinar.

Early deadlines are Dec. 16, so don’t wait to investigate this opportunity.

Remember, for more information on the GRIP Program grant opportunities and others that are open now or opening soon, visit the Federal Infrastructure Grant Resources page on the ElectriCities website often.

And for more information about our free federal grants advisory services for members or to schedule a consultation, contact Carl Rees, ElectriCities Manager of Economic and Community Development.

Help APPA Spotlight Excellence in Public Power

The American Public Power Association is seeking nominations for its annual individual leadership and utility excellence awards.

Individual leadership awards recognize utility leadership and contributions to public policy and advocacy, and the utility awards recognize outstanding business, operations, and service by public power utilities.

Recent winners in our region include ElectriCities’ Kenny Roberts, who received the Harold Kramer-John Preston Personal Service Award earlier this year, and Fayetteville Public Works Commission, 2021 recipient of the Sue Kelly Community Service Award.

Winners will be recognized at APPA’s National Conference in June and showcased on APPA’s website, social media channels, and publications.

Find details and nomination forms for the APPA awards at www.PublicPower.org/Awards.
