Sharing Opinions on a Saturday Afternoon

It was another amazing, insightful, and very fun Roundtable Discussion last Saturday at the Oak Bend Library Branch. 12 students from 11 different schools, private and public, gathered to talk about Income Disparity, Social Media pros and cons, Krysten Sinema leaving the Democrat Party, Perils of the Two-Party Political System in America, and more. Yet once again, we did not get to all of the great topics on the agenda. We are planning another discussion in January, but still confirming a venue. Watch for a signup soon!

Where Have all the Streetcars Gone?

Why was the Loop Trolley a failure? Why don't trains stop at Union Station anymore? What used to be on the Arch grounds? Why is Downtown dead? Where did all the streetcars go? Join Civitas alum and St. Olaf Senior Gabe Lepak for a conversation on American urbanism in the past 100 years as we answer these questions and more while we examine the policies, events, and players behind the way our neighborhoods are designed.
This fun event will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023, 1:00 pm--3:00 pm, (while Gabe is still home on winter break!) at Grant's View Library (9700 Musick Rd., St. Louis, MO 63123).

High School Students Wanted for Holocaust Museum Advisory Board

The St. Louis Kaplan Feldman Holocaust Museum (12 Millstone Campus Dr., Creve Coeur 63146) reopened last month after a huge renovation and expansion that quadrupled its size.* Dr. Warren Rosenblum, professor of the Department of History, Politics, International Relations and Religious Studies at Webster University (our generous host for High School Model UN events) serves on the Executive Committee of the Holocaust Museum and Learning Center.

During his brief welcome to Webster U before Model UN on Sat., Dec. 3, Dr. Rosenblum praised the amazing new Holocaust Museum, now rivaling many others in the country. He also shared that the museum is hoping to attract local high school students who can be advisors to what is offered, and how to attract a younger generation to the museum. Rising anti-Semitism in the United States is a topic the White House is addressing tomorrow. Bringing the dialogue to St. Louis, and including high school voices, is a short-term goal of the newly renovated Holocaust Museum.
If you would like to be a part of this exciting opportunity to serve on a Youth Advisory for the Holocaust Museum, contact Dr. Warren Rosenblum via email:

*Civitas is planning a field trip to the Holocaust Museum on a Sunday afternoon in January or February for interested students. Hopefully we'll have more info in next week's newsletter.
