When Southwest Airlines stopped allowing passengers with peanut allergy to pre-board flights in October, AAFA began contacting the Department of Transportation (DOT) and other administration officials. AAFA joined with other food allergy advocates in filing a formal complaint against Southwest to DOT. Southwest responded and is planning to restore pre-boarding to people with severe nut allergy on Dec. 15th. While AAFA is pleased that Southwest reversed its policy, our work is not done. The American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (ACAAI) held their Annual Science Meeting Nov. 10-14, in Louisville, Kentucky. During the meeting, ACAAI shared the latest news on topics important to people with food allergies and asthma. Health insurance is especially important for people with chronic conditions like food allergies and asthma. If you have insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace, you have until Dec. 15 to make changes to your plan for coverage that starts on Jan. 1, 2023.
