Hi, Reckless ones

I started the weekend with possibly the only song to reference Senegal and Dumfries featuring Mark E Smith and Jon The Postman. From the original Throbbing Thistle album - Post-Puerile Trombone Man.

Loathe as I am to give more space to Neil Oliver, the phrase 'Woke-A-Nauts Are Using Death Spaniels' was just crying out to be a song, so I made it so. It helped that the marvellous Happy Toast did a fabulous picture to accompany it.

Everybody's favourite dinosaur, Gordon Brown, was back on the scene yet again this week, so it was time for another outing for the seminal 'Gordon Brown Sings Political Ballads' album.

Indeed, many old Reckless characters were back in the news, including Michelle Mone - Baroness 4 Life, and Matt Berry, who was nominated for a comedy award. An excellent opportunity to repost Matt Berry Sez.

A Mr Colin Steer on twatter alerted me to the phrase L'Appel Du Vide, meaning 'the call of the void', which pertains to that feeling we all get when standing on the edge of a cliff and feeling the need to jump. I felt compelled to immortalise it in song and. me being me, the first French tune that popped into my head was Sandie Shaw's 'Monsieur Dupont' which as kids we used to sing as 'My Shoes Do Pong.' Happy days.

Finally, many congratulations to the Tripe Marketing Board (see last week's newsletter) who have raised over £12,000 for foodbanks already across the country.  Expect more collaborations with them coming soon!
