Enchant DC
Enchant Christmas, which features a beloved light maze, will make its home in DC at the gorgeous Nationals Park from Nov. 25 to Jan. 1, 2023. There will also be ice skating trails, a holiday village with products from local businesses and a kids’ play place. Expect plenty of Instagram-friendly settings and holiday spirit at this one-of-a-kind installation.
 

Georgetown GLOW
Beginning the Saturday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 26), you can stroll through DC’s most historic neighborhood to see jaw-dropping illuminated artworks. Georgetown GLOW, which will run through Jan. 22, 2023, is always a holiday hit in the District. Participants range from locally renowned to internationally celebrated, while their works gorgeously adorn outdoor spaces throughout Georgetown.
 

ZooLights at the National Zoo
The colorful glow of Washington, D.C.’s beloved Smithsonian’s National Zoo holiday tradition is back for 2022! Join the thousands of visitors who make ZooLights, powered by Pepco, a part of their annual holiday tradition. A free, ticketed, event, ZooLights includes live music performances, tasty winter treats and plenty of opportunities for holiday shopping.  Environmentally friendly LED lights and dozens of glowing animal lanterns transform the Zoo into a winter wonderland! Tickets are released at 10AM daily for specific dates. Check out the ZooLights dates

Dimensions Sciences Summit & Career Panel Discussion


December 12th from 6-8PM ET

WIB-Capital Region is sponsoring a career development panel at a virtual summit organized by Dimensions Sciences. The event will feature award presentations, networking, and career development activities with the theme You Can Change the World. We Can Help.

The event will start with 1-min pitches from the 2022 Dimensions Sciences Bridges Scholars The program provides scholarships and mentoring for scientists from underrepresented backgrounds who are performing research with practical applications in the life sciences and health sciences and are currently working without monetary compensation in Brazil, the US, or internationally. This year's class of scholars consists of underrepresented scientists from Brazil with a master's degree or higher who are working on areas of global impact such a climate change, materials, genomics, and infectious diseases. 

After voting on the pitches, attendees will listen to the WIB-sponsored panel Exploring the Possibilities: How Four Women Leveraged their Doctoral Degrees in the Biomedical Enterprise. The panel will be moderated by Stephanie Davis, WIB-Capital Region Chapter Chair, who will speak with four PhD-holding female scientists from historically underrepresented groups. The speakers will share how their PhD training prepared them for their current roles, their experiences as Underrepresented Minority (URM) women in STEM, and their advice for other female scientists looking to pursue a biomedical doctorates.

The event will close with an award ceremony honoring Scholars that went above and beyond. All scientists and non-scientists interested in STEM are invited to participate.

NPA SmartSkills Webinar

December 13th at 3PM ET

Interested in working to improve the policy and legislative landscape affecting the research community? During this session, attendees will learn key skills to successfully engage in advocacy. Participants will learn about advocacy tactics, effective communication, and the application of scientific research skills to advocacy activities. Participants will also learn about ways that they can participate in policy and advocacy initiatives during their postdoctoral training and paths to pursuing a full-time career in government relations.
