HANOVER TROLLEY TRAIL NEWS
Rail Trail Authority sets sights on 2023 trail construction.
Committees are meeting, walks are being conducted, and grant awards are being received. All these activities are preparing for construction of the next phase of the Hanover Trolley Trail expansion. The Authority’s development committee met on November 14 to make recommendations for trail surface and fencing, and on November 18 the Hanover Trolley Trail operating committee walked a section of the recently cleared rail corridor. At a November 29 meeting with Jackson Township officials, current issues were discussed and plans were made for more frequent communications between the Rail Trail Authority and Township. A $700,000 PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant awarded in August opened opportunity for an amendment that, if approved, would construct trail in 2023 from Spring Grove to Martin Road and on to the Sunnyside Road Bridge - a distance of over 2 miles!
Public open house announced.
Thursday, March 23, 2023, the public is invited to stop in anytime between 4 PM and 6 PM at Windy Hill On-the-Campus, 1472 Roth’s Church Rd, Spring Grove, PA, to meet members of the York County Rail Trail Authority and its committees, learn more about the Hanover Trolley Trail expansion project, and view plans and drawings for 2023 trail construction.

Rail salvage operation moves west of Spring Grove.
With the rails removed on 3.2 miles of rail corridor from Bair to Spring Grove, the salvage operation has now moved in to Heidelberg Township where an additional 5.3 miles of rails and other track materials will be removed. This operation has left a rather wide open – and inviting – pathway that is NOT OPEN for public use.  Until the trail is constructed, all those who enter are trespassing. Those who ignore the posted No Trespassing signs do so at their own risk and damage the goodwill and relationships being formed with adjacent property owners.

HERITAGE RAIL TRAIL NEWS
York City opened the final leg (almost) of Heritage Rail Trail.
On a perfect fall day October 21, 2022, York City Mayor Michael Helfich and Public Works Director Chaz Green welcomed officials and trail users to a ceremony dedicating the recently completed section of the Heritage Rail Trail from W Philadelphia Street to N George Street. The ceremony was followed by a walk on the new section of trail where visionaries such as Tim Fulton nabbed the opportunity to talk to the mayor about future economic development that will certainly be spurred by completion of the trail.
