North Staff Holiday Gift Giving!
North Families,
If you enjoy giving holiday gifts to your student(s) teachers, but are at a loss about what to do now that your kids are in high school and have several teachers, we can help! North High is collecting presents and gift cards for every single teacher and staff member at North, well almost 300 folks.
Any amount is greatly appreciated, and family participation is completely optional. We suggest keeping gift cards and gifts at $25 value.
Gift and gift card donations can be dropped off at North Main Office during office hours.
For cash and monetary gifts contact Erika Taylor at chiperika@yahoo.com. All funds will be used to purchase gift cards from local, North Denver businesses for every teacher and staff member.

Finals Week Schedule
We will have our normal schedule for Monday and Tuesday and give finals during those periods. Wednesday and Thursday will be learning support and no classes on Friday, it will be our staff grading day.
- December 14th and 15th - Learning Support, only for students not passing or improving their grades
- December 16th - Grades are Finalized at noon.

LEAP season
Applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) will be available starting tomorrow, Nov. 1, online or for customer pick up at the Denver Human Services Welcome Center (2929 W. 10th Ave., Denver, CO 80204), Denver Human Services East Office and the Arie P. Taylor Municipal Building. LEAP helps families by paying a portion of their heating costs.

College and Career Corner
A QUICK INTRODUCTION OF COLORADO GEAR UP AND THE PRECOLLEGIATE ADVISOR:
GEAR UP stands for "Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs." GEAR UP is a national pre-college grant program that the federal government funds. The program aims to ensure that more students are ready to attend college, vocational school, or trade school and do well there. The GEAR UP program supports 278 NHS students in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades and awards them a $4,000 scholarship for college, vocational school, or trade school. GEAR UP has pledged more than a million dollars to NHS students. GEAR UP is not currently recruiting or accepting new students. If you need to confirm that your student is in the program, don't hesitate to contact GEAR UP.
Dawn Romero is the pre-college advisor for GEAR UP. She oversees the program and works with GEAR UP students. Dawn is an NHS alumna who is excited to be returning. Dawn has experience in high school, college, and the nonprofit sector and wants to help students reach their goals.
To maximize the program's effectiveness, GEAR UP requires students to attend once per month. All GEAR UP students must meet with their pre-college advisor by December 23, 2023, to stay eligible. Before visiting, students in the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades should become familiar with the College Board's calendars. All seniors need to check in before leaving for winter break so that we can confirm and support them as they apply for college, financial aid, and scholarships. Additionally, parents and guardians need to contact GEAR UP by phone or email. It is critical to form partnerships with students, parents, and guardians to collaborate to help students succeed in college or their careers. GEAR UP is excited to see all of the GEAR UP scholars.
