A Prayer for the Week
O God of Isaiah and John the Baptist,
through all such faithful ones
you proclaim the unfolding of future joy
and renewed life.
Strengthen our hearts to believe your advent promise
that one day we will walk in the holy way of Christ,
where sorrow and sighing will be no more
and the journey of God's people will be joy. Amen.

December Polychronia
This Sunday, we remember major milestones in the lives of our church family for the month of December. Please send your name and your birthday, anniversary or other life event for remembrance to info@stgeorgesonthehill.ca to be included in this month's blessing.

Mitten Tree
St. George’s on-the-Hill’s annual mitten tree is up in the sanctuary beside the Lady Altar. Please bring in new waterproof mittens, hats and scarves suitable for children or adults. This warm winter clothing will be donated to LAMP on the Lakeshore and St. James Food Basket.

A Thank-You from St. James Food Basket
Dear Natalie and the Prayer Shawl Group:
Thank you so much for the group’s donation of knitted items to St. James Food Basket. Our food recipients always appreciate hand-made items. We offer each family a choice of one knitted item as they go through the line. They appreciate receiving something warm for a member of their family, but also appreciate the involvement of people in their community. It really helps people feel less alone as they live through tough times.
Sincerely,
Marie Truelove
Chair, St. James Food Basket

Pints of View Update
Last spring, after discussing how to become involved in active volunteerism, the Pints of View group decided to volunteer with Etobicoke Support Services for Seniors (ESS). The ESS Mobile Food Bank service provides weekly food hampers to Etobicoke seniors who are experiencing barriers to accessing other food banks.
|
|
As a member of the Daily Bread Food Bank, ESS receives weekly supplies of donated food items. Our volunteer activities include stocking hampers with grocery items received to, as best possible, reflect that of a well-balanced diet and to accommodate individual dietary restrictions. Once boxed, the hampers are delivered directly to the client’s door.
|
|
|
|
Donation cheque that was presented to ESS from funds raised through the Pints of View group. The donation enabled ESS to expand their shelving storage racks and the tables used to fill all the boxes.
|
|
Pints of View volunteers filling food donation cartons. The new storage racks (behind) have really made a difference in helping keep things organized, off the floor, and easier to pack.
|
|
The initial volunteering plan was to help on Monday morning, filling the hampers. As we have worked with their team, other volunteer opportunities have been identified. We have begun to help with the deliveries of the food hampers on Wednesdays. If you would be interested in joining in the volunteering, please contact any member of the Pints of View group. It’s very rewarding!

Cemetery Manager, Peter Longfield, Retires
|
|
Many of you may now be aware that Peter Longfield has retired as our Cemetery Manager, as of November 30th. Peter has been a valued member of the St. George’s community for many years, and was instrumental in updating our cemetery records and mapping.
|
|
|
We are excited for Peter and his wife Katrina and we wish them every blessing!
Your wardens and cemetery board are in the process of arranging for future management of the cemetery. In the meantime, if you have questions about purchasing burial or cremation plots, please contact Sarah in the Church Office.

THANK YOU!
Out of the Cold Take-Out Community Dinner
On behalf of the St. George's-on-the-Hill Dream Team, we would like to sincerely thank you for your generous food donations to the St. Margaret's Church Community Dinner Program that was held on Mon, Nov. 28th.
The place was bustling with activity and everyone enjoyed the tasty shepherd's pie, coleslaw, homemade buns and brownies. We definitely need to count our blessings.
Thanks again for continually being there for this worthwhile cause!
For more information about this community event at St. Margaret's or to donate, please visit: www.smnt.ca

Our Advent Food Drive is Underway!
Please drop off any non-perishable items for the Daily Bread Food Bank in the bins inside the church. Bins are located at the north (main) doors, west doors and the breezeway.
If you have items to donate but are unable to drop them off at the church, please call Sarah in the office to arrange a pick up.
We will also be accepting monetary donations via our website, or simply use the envelopes in the church.

This week, we remember those who have died, and those whose memorials occur at this time, especially:
Olive Hooker
Rest eternal grant unto them, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon them. May they rest in peace and rise with Christ in Glory.
