CCMR 2020 Year End Update
Happy Holidays CCMR!
Don’t forget that Amazon will donate to CCMR when you use Amazon Smile  to shop this Christmas.  See details and links after the 2022 photos below)

CCMR Rainbow Trail Reroute. After six years, the RBT is once again continuous through the joint efforts of BLM, USFS and CCMR.  CCMR was awarded CPW OHV grants to pay the youth corps to chainsaw the corridor and to finance the new six miles of excavation.  Your OHV sticker funds at work!. Thanks to all those that came to our many workdays.  Click here for the press release and photos.

RBT End-to-End Ride.  To celebrate the Rainbow Trail being continuous again, CCMR and USFS SRD OHV crew riders rode an end-to-end, one-day ride.  Riding from the Silver Creek end to the Medano Pass end (104 miles) took the experienced riders almost 12 hours.

Headwater Hill.  Another major project we did this year was on Headwater Hill (Colorado Trail and Continental Divide Scenic Trail).  In preparation for the Colorado Trail Foundation work week, USFS and CCMR moved four dump truckloads of road base from Marshall Pass to the mud bog area. Volunteers spent the week camped out on site and helped three different USFS Ranger Districts drain and regrade the trail prior to laying geogrid and road base.

PSI Record of Decision.  The Pike San Isabel National Forest (PSINF) Record of Decision Final Environmental Impact Statement has been signed and is available to the public at https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=48214. The USFS informed us that implementation will take about two years.

CCMR Adopted Trails.  FYI, CCMR has adopted 54 miles of trails.  We partner with our BLM and USFS land managers to help maintain and clear these trails.  We also actively apply for grants to help maintain and improve sections requiring professional contractors.  Our adopted trail maps are available on our website at http://centralcoloradomountainriders.com/adoptedtrails.html.

Workdays.  We had workdays at the Sundgren Sunset Loop (May) and the National Trails Day joint workday with Salida Mountain Trails on the Rainbow Trail (Jun).  We also had numerous Rainbow Trail reroute workdays.  Again, thanks for all the help.

Potential New Singletrack Trails

Texas Creek.  This has been in the works for a long time.  We discussed this at the BLM OHV year-end meeting on November 16th.  BLM will schedule a meeting with Colorado Parks and Wildlife to discuss our options.
Porter Gulch.  USFS has designed and submitted a NEPA for a Porter Gulch connector to the RBT.  This has been delayed for an owl study.
Penrose Commons.  We have reviewed a proposal for potential singletrack trails.  We recommended this in our recent BLM RAMP response.
CR106 to RBT.   Salida Mountain Trail MTB club designed this 4.8 motorized singletrack.  We are working with SMT and the USFS to make this happen.

Club Meetings/Events.  Our June 4th annual meeting and auction were a big success.  The Dustin Rushton meeting in September was a great event that raised money for one of our fallen riders.  And last, but not least - CCMR celebrated a fantastic 2022 with a fun year-end gathering on December 2th.  A big shout out to our sponsors and everyone who attended for making these events memorable.

PLA Award.  The USFS Salida Ranger District (SRD) nominated CCMR for and we were awarded the prestigious Public Lands Alliance 2022 Public Lands Partner Award for best practices, leading-edge achievements, and excellence in public land partnership.  Click here for the press release.

Volunteer Hours.  CCMR submitted 1,577 volunteer hours to USFS and BLM for 2022.  Beyond helping to build, maintain and improve our trails, your volunteer hours help CCMR win grants and gain community support. Thanks for all your hard work!

In addition to our trail workers - we want to give a shout out to our all-volunteer board members and the volunteers that write grants, attend advocacy meetings, provide land managers feedback, and maintain social media to name a few of their countless contributions.

CCMR Grants.  CCMR submitted and was awarded a $5K Fox Factory grant.  We used this on the Headwater Hill project.  We were notified that the two CPW OHV grants we submitted in 2021 will be funded in 2023.  The first grant is for the Big Bend Motocross track maintenance and equipment.  The second is for CCMR adopted trail maintenance.  CCMR adopted trails, like Poplar Gulch and others, need work that exceeds our normal workdays.  We intend to use this grant to subcontract professional trail builders for the trail work.

In addition, this fall CCMR has been busy writing new requests for grants.  We submitted a youth corps grant request for funding in 2023 to do maintenance on the Rainbow between Silver Creek and Hwy 285.  We also wrote two CPW OHV requests for grants in 2024 - a continuation of the Trail Maintenance and Big Bend grants.  We are also submitting a Yamaha grant to repair the Green Timber Trail bridge.

Moonlight Pizza Day. We had a good turnout for the first ever CCMR Moonlight Pizza Day and Moonlight made a nice donation to CCMR.  Mark your calendars for May 15, 2023 to repeat. This is an outstanding program they run from September through June each year where they donate 10% of that day's sales to a local non-profit. It’s always great to support a local small business, and better yet when that business actively supports their community.

Local Support.  CCMR provided support to the Vapor Trail 125 MTB race (Aug), flagged the Summer Grand Traverse MTB and Foot Race (Sep), and flagged and swept the Salida 76 MTB event (Sep).

Letters Submitted.  As part of CCMR’s efforts to create, maintain and protect trails, we write letters to land managers with comments and/or support for various proposed projects:  BLM RGFO Camping & TMP Comments (Jan), USFS SRD Porter Gulch letter of support (Feb), USFS GRD North Valley Trails Project letter of support (Mar), USFS SRD Camping Plan comments (Mar), BLM State Big Game Corridor Amendment comments (Sep), BLM Moab Travel Management Plan comments (Oct), and Penrose Commons RAMP comments (Nov).

CCMR stickers have a new look.  You are familiar with the traditional blue helmet stickers, but now we are printing stickers with the year and in colors that match the OHV stickers.  New members and those that renew annually will receive these collectible versions of CCMR stickers while they last.

Miscellaneous.  CCMR purchased an enclosed trailer this year and recently had it wrapped with the club helmet logo.  Look for it at our workdays and events.

Be aware that to ride in Utah next year requires an OHV online certification
